I have the pleasure of owning one young A.S bird, as unfortunately the other eggs of her breed did not hatch.
We named her Frida.
There is some colour in ‘her’ wattles now, especially when excited or nervous (which is a lot) even though they are only 4 weeks old.
I WOULD say I’m quite good at...
A chicken with an impacted crop will not be passing much if any poo.
It is a blockage of the crop, and seeing as their digestive system is about 15 minutes long, if nothing is getting through, nothing is coming out either.
The hen may still lay for the first day or so, but will quickly go down...
I know this is 3 years ago now. But I woke up this morning to find my 4 week old runner with her leg chewed off up to the same sortve stump as yours and the same age! I found her shivering in the cold wet grass, blood everywhere. She's not very tame so I hated scaring her to pick her up.
I...
Daphne is my lovely white pet runner duck.
Yesterday she was fine, today she can't stand and drags her feet on her belly (as if trying to swim through the grass)
She seems to be able to stand for seconds at a time, before collapsing in a pile.
She prefers one leg to another, so at first I...
I think they're are all roos but the first two in the photos (and pictured above) look like a mix of something else.
But the race is very VERY red for 3.5-4 months of age
It might also be a very good idea to get down on your hands and knees in the areas that the chickens forage, and investigate the soil and the plants close up.
There may be a plant that they are eating which is killing them, there could be something in the soil that is contributing to their...
I'm sorry to hear of your loss,
I can only think that it is something to do with your feed or an infection or virus of the intestines if it is being carried so quickly throughout your flock.
I recommend you move your birds to another location temporarily and completely disinfect and scrub down...
They look about 2 weeks old but then died to me. But don't give up. Make notes so you compare. Keep an eye on whether there is an odour coming from them after 5-8 days.
Good luck!
Well it got a bit worse, and then it got a lot better. I think it might be a combination of scratching as their feathers start to develop under the skin. I imagine they're quite irritating when you think how big those follicles are that hold the thick, strong feathers - compared to fluffy, soft...

So here we are again...do my eyes deceive me as I pray that it is a pullet and not a roo?..
The cockerels were; cuckoo marans & black rocks
The hens; RIR, Cuckoo marans, Copper marans, Araucana, leghorn/Minorca
It is definitely a cuckoo maran of some sort. At first I thought it was PURE...
