I've had this particular quail for almost two years now, I hatched her August 2018. Over time she has developed cataracts and now seems to be essentially blind. She was always a bit lighter than the other quail, but she moved alot more than them so I thought that was why. I've noticed in...
Very important update! Last night Aggie(brown colored) attacked both other birds to the point of bleeding! Both at the top of their beaks, and Connie around her left eye a s well. I've separated them so it won't progress, but I'm not sure where to go from here. As for Aggie, she's staying put...
Not yet, the ramp is a little steep for them. We're planning on altering it to raise it a bit so it's less steep. For the stuff on the bottom we're not sure what to put, we don't want rain to affect the material we put there. We'll take it onto consideration though, thanks!
We just recently got a coop for the quail from tractor supply and intoduced the trio. The first night went fine, but towards the afternoon Aggie began becoming territorial. We decided to separate her for the day, we are going to try to reintroduce her tonight when it's dark and they're calmer...
Yesterday, we found out the genders of the quail from an egg count. Surprisingly, exactly on week 6. We found three eggs, so... they're all girls! We renamed Connor to Connie, and Oliver to Olive. Olive was the first to lay, then Aggie, then Connie.
Question, does anyone know how many these...
Good evening! I know it's been a while, so here is an update. To start, my siblings have finally decided on a name for the largest quail! So, drumroll please, the names have all been settled on. The brown one's name is Aggie, the smaller snowy is Olive/Oliver, and the big one is Connor. All of...
Today we attempted to give the Quail their first sand bath! None of them actually bathed, but we'll try again soon enough.
I also added some bird netting to the top of their pen to prevent them from escaping again. I used some washers to weigh down the corners an such.
They don't seem to...
Today marks the quails two-week anniversary! The small white quail now ways 58 grams along with the striped brown one. The very large white quail weighs in at a whopping 76 grams, over halfway to its adult weight. To celebrate here are some pictures!
It's really funny to see them go nuts...
The quail have definitely gained some weight! The large yellow/white one now weighs a whole 57 grams, the smaller yellow/white one weighs 43 grams. The brown striped one weighs 45 grams. They've all at least tripled their hatch weight in just 12 days!
As of today, the biggest Snowie Quail weighs 41 grams, the smallest is 31, and the striped brown one is 32 grams. They all seem like they are trying to fly already, they jump really high for their size!
So today it seemed as if the chick was improving a lot, the toes uncurled and the legs were moving into position. All seemed well until it stopped breathing and gave up. It died roughly an hour ago. Thanks for any advice given, I truly appreciate the support. Thank you for listening, I'll keep...
It seems that the quail has gotten a bit fluffier, and a bit louder with its chirps. It even tried to stand a bit! We'll have to keep feeding it once an hour, but hopefully, it can survive through the night.
We've just fed it some mushy chick feed, and it did seem like it ate some. Currently, it weighs 8 grams, we're hoping it will weigh some more after it eats more. If anyone has any advice, I'm still open for anything.
