Yesterday, we found out the genders of the quail from an egg count. Surprisingly, exactly on week 6. We found three eggs, so... they're all girls! We renamed Connor to Connie, and Oliver to Olive. Olive was the first to lay, then Aggie, then Connie.

Question, does anyone know how many these guys lay a year. I've heard it can be over 300. I'm not sure if that's with a light on all the time, or if that's naturally year round. If anyone knows that'd be great!

We just recently got a coop for the quail from tractor supply and intoduced the trio. The first night went fine, but towards the afternoon Aggie began becoming territorial. We decided to separate her for the day, we are going to try to reintroduce her tonight when it's dark and they're calmer. For now, here are some pictures.

Cute! I'd give them some dirt or shavings to scratch around in, though.
Do they go up the ramp into the upper part at all?

Not yet, the ramp is a little steep for them. We're planning on altering it to raise it a bit so it's less steep. For the stuff on the bottom we're not sure what to put, we don't want rain to affect the material we put there. We'll take it onto consideration though, thanks!

Very important update! Last night Aggie(brown colored) attacked both other birds to the point of bleeding! Both at the top of their beaks, and Connie around her left eye a s well. I've separated them so it won't progress, but I'm not sure where to go from here. As for Aggie, she's staying put with no observed injuries. If it helps, here are pictures of the two that were attacked. Connie is in the left and Olive on the right.

If anyone has a clue as to where to go next, and help is greatly appreciated.

Separate them, see but no touch? Hopefully someone with more experience comes through with more wisdom

You can put boxes of dirt or kitty litter pans if dirt in there.

If you don't separate them the one may kill the others. It can happen pretty fast.


Also get some fake plants in there to give them hiding spots.

Sometimes girls have moods

Seconding more hiding spots/activities like sand digging, that will help. Rearrange everything when you put her back in, helps prevent them from feeling territorial.
