I've had coturnix quail for a few years now, and a couple years back I got an accidental male in with my hens. At first he wasn't a problem, and his crowing was kind of cute, but now he's become a problem quail. He is vicious to all other quail, no matter if he's been raised with them. He's...
I have 3 cots living in a large rabbit hutch in my unheated greenhouse. Its a bit warmer in the greenhouse than it is outdoors because there are no drafts and the sun warms it, but at night it's getting down into the 20s. Do I need a heater to keep them warm, or will they be ok as long as I keep...
I think they are molting :) That's good it's nothing too serious. Does it take the same time for them to molt as it does chickens?
Well, either way, it's good to know that they don't have a deadly disease or anything They are such little cuties.
Hello!
So i have had my coturnix quail for a while now, and there are about a half a year old. I kept them in the greenhouse this winter, and they were very happy and healthy, laying loads of eggs a day.
I just moved them into a hutch, about a week and a half ago. They have plenty of room...
Hi!
I have 4 lovely coturnix quail hens who live with their 2 roos. Although, it seems like they are laying 5-6 eggs a day. Is this possible for a quail to lay more than one egg a day?
Thanks
After the sudden death of four of my quail i am left with 6... 4 females, 2 males. It's amazing that the males still try to kill eachother with nearly 20 sqaure feet each! One of my males picked out the eye of one of the others. Don't worry, i seperated them.
At least the females are happy-...
Great news! He is getting better ( YAY!!! ) He walks almost normally now. Perhaps he somehow injured his legs and they are healing. I will make sure to worm them like twocowsranch suggested.
Thanks so much for all of your answers!
I had and still have the same problem... First check if you in fact have 2 males and 10 females. Are they crowing yet?
Having that much light is good... The one other thing is; when was the last time you moved them or their cage? Did they grow up in this cage, or did you buy them and put them...
I found mine on craigslist, like loveofchickens suggested... Usually there will be some not too far away! I was looking for the same thing as you, but i suppose Coturnix are too nervous to ship? Maybe that's not true.
Good luck!
I have only had them for about 2 months, and they have only been kept on dirt for about a month, so i haven't wormed them yet. The reason i moved them onto dirt was because they started picking at each other terribly, and fighting. Now, with 4 less, should i try moving them to the cage again...
I don't think that the legs/ hocks are warm. I researched the disease and it doesn't sound exactly like what he has. Is there any cure to the infection?
These are adults. I have them under heat, because after the 4 died someone suggested they were too cold... I only have 6 now so would they...
Sorry about yet another coturnix quail post... I keep my quail in a 8x12 greenhouse on dirt, and one of the males, Spaz, isn't walking correctly. He can move his feet, but can't hold his weight, so he pushes himself around on his belly with his feet. He look very healthy and his feet look fine...
Oh, so cold may be the culprit. Interesting! I had waaaay to many males ( 4 males, 6 females ) So perhaps that's what happened. They have been exposed to the cold for a while now, though, and last night wasn't very cold.
It gets pretty cold at night here in winter, below freezing. There are no...
