I have bobwhite eggs from our coop. I've tried a couple time to incubate and hatch a few with no success. The eggs develop, but the chicks don't hatch. Three have pipped, but didn't make it out. I could even hear them chirping. The other eggs I could see rocking, but, again, didn't make it...
An update: Cadbury is doing well. Her head has healed completely. Her beak has grown back. She is back with the other quail. And, she is laying eggs again. Thanks for all the help!
I took this picture Saturday (7/4). As you can see she did quite a bit of damage to her scalp. It looks much better today. Parts of the scab have fallen off and what looks like skin is in its place. Tiny feather have also begun to grow around the bald parts of her head. From the photo you...
Yes, I'm keeping her by herself. She seems to be healing up now. She doesn't try popping up as much anymore since we've lowered her ceiling. And, with the ceiling being cloth she has not reopened her wound when she does pop up.
I will take pics and see if I can figure out how to post them...
Thanks, TwoCrows. In the main quail pen, they have "huts" they like to hid in. I'll put soom grass clippings and weeds in her temporary pen tomorrow. I don't know if I can fit any branches in there, but I'll try. You are right that she is nervous. I've never seen her so stressed out.

Thank you for replying!
We had tried a little plastic carrying case (like something for gerbils) about the size of a men's shoebox. She was still trying to pop up. Should we try that again? It is about 17cm high. What about her scalp? How do I get it back over her skull?
Hi everyone. My family and I have a a coturnix hen that has injured her head by head-butting the ceiling of her pen. We put her in the "hospital pen" (a large plastic bin with a bi-fold lid). We have hardware cloth covering half of the opening and use the lid to cover the other half. We placed...
My family and I recently started raising quail. It all started with my son's science project (a ChickBator and four bobwhite eggs) and transitioned into a 4H project. Now we are hooked. We have been on this site many times the past few months for help and thought it was about time we joined.
