One hatched in the cage before she abandoned the nest and I found it dead so I don't know if she killed it. It was not near the nest and looked big and healthy so it def hatched ok. I wasn't home when it happened. I have the babies in the room but haven't heard her calling to them.
Three hatched.. Ones looking a bit weaker than the other two. I have three more eggs under the lamp. I hope they still hatch. :) They are soo cute!!! (the nickel was there for a size comparison and they all tried to eat it LOL)
So I had one chick hatch this morning. It's looking good except its still really wobbly on its feet. I'm hoping more hatch today, there are 5 eggs left.
Yeah I have a brooder and I have damp paper towel in with the eggs for humidity plus I mist them every once in a while. I think they may have gone cold for too long. Is there anyway to see if they are still alive in there?
So one egg hatched while I was out today but the chick died. Momma abandoned the nest :(. I took the eggs out an have them under a heat lamp at 99 degrees so I'm hoping that I can get a few to hatch out.
When i fed them tonight Penny was distracted so i float tested one egg and it was moving!! Hoping they hatch soon!! When I put the egg back momma scooted it back under herself.
Thank you grandma bird for the advice. Ill attach some cardboard to make it a bit higher. Ohh fingers crossed!!
Yes my hen is Penny. She is still doing great with sitting. I havent candled or anything cause im terrified of spooking her off the nest. She sat on another clutch before but after 7 days water spilled and i had to partially clean the cage and it spooked her enough to abandon the nest. I cracked...
Ok so as i said in a diff post i have a momma button quail sitting on eggs. Today is day 16! I know they can take longer to hatch when momma sits but i was wondering if anyone knows the average time it might take. Also i have them in a cage and im not sure if the babies can escape through the...
I honestly have no idea how or why shes sitting. I have her and her mate in a mixed cage with a canary, finch and a pair of diamond doves. I normally took all the eggs out every 7 days and used them to feed other animals i had but i was out most of that last weekend and on day 9 when i went to...
Hi my name is Jess and im new to the whole quail thing. I just got a pair of Buttons and after hearing about how difficult it is to have the female incubate her own chicks my hen has gone broody and has been sitting on the eggs for 10 days now! If they actually hatch out im going to have a lot...
