The two up-and-down rows in the center of this photo are Haustec eggs I got to hatch. They were different, I'd describe them as shades of brown-gray-green and gray-brown.
Here's the white chick now. Its feathers are coming in maybe a tiny bit less white. Or the slight color might just be staining from playing in the brooder sand.
Looks like the white chick has leg feathers:
The contrast between the white chick and the black ones is so strong that I couldn't get a good photo of them together in the sunlight. (Or the white chick actually glows :P . )
Here's that chick again with a jar of sugar for color comparison. On the left is a chick that I would have called "white" if it didn't have a pattern - until I saw this one. I can't see any color pattern on the white-white one, just white down with black skin underneath. Or I should probably...
Did you set it to two hours as recommended? I was hesitant so I set it to one hour. That's the first time I used a Brinsea so I don't have a comparison.
New babies! The eggs I got from Grannychick55 started hatching last night, right on schedule. One BQO and two Colloncas so far. The BQO posed for a photo.
I'm in the Pacific Northwest, which is supposed to be one of the hot spots, from what I've read. I haven't had any problems but I like to be on the safe side. And for any birds that leave my property, I feel better knowing they're protected.
I have two hatches coming up next week and I need to put in an order for Marek's vaccine. I've done some looking around and found six different U.S. sources online that sell Marek's and now I'm trying to decide which would be the best place, not just by price but also by the quality of...
I received a pair of tall Boggs for Christmas last year and they have become my all-time favorite boot for the chickens and the garden. They keep the muck out and my pant legs clean. Easy to slip on like my gardening clogs but I don't get rocks sneaking in under my feet. They live on the back...
Here's a picture of the eggs I received from Grannychick55 last week. 6 BQO on the left. 3 Haustecs in the center, and 8 Colloncas on the right. Quite a range in colors. I candled them last night and it looks like over half of them are developing - I'm so excited!
