I keep Pekin Bantams and I have a 4 month old pullet that I hatched from their eggs under a broody. (Her name is Mushroom 😂)
And today I found this tiny egg in the nest box (see below) and I was wondering if she could've layed it? 🤔
I've kept chickens of all shapes and sizes for years and I've...
I've got a 6 day old Cayuga X duckling that I'm hand rearing as it's the only one and it's started to lose its down on its neck. It keeps itching a lot and has a head wound caused by a Pekin bantam that lives with its broody surrogate. I'm treating the head wound and it's healing up nicely but...
I'm going to have them in a covered, weather proof run so I don't think it'll be a problem.
I also live in the UK and we're not known for our sunny climate  but apart from that, do you think it could theoretically help? :)
I just got two Pekin Bantams and one is a frizzle. My dad recommended keeping them on sand instead of sawdust as their poop will be less likely to stick to their feathers. Any ideas? And would children's sand be fine? it's considerably cheaper than proper sand bedding. :)
I brought some duck eggs home from my work experience placement back in 2013 and put them under a broody chicken. Two hatched out but one died shortly after hatching so the one got taken out and put in a brooder. We then bought 2 Cochin chicks to live with him (he turned out to be a drake) and...
Fair enough! I wanted to cull the deformed ones but my mum and siblings didn't let me because they wanted to give them a chance. we made little shoes out of cellotape and cereal packet cardboard but they still didn't correct and I made tiny shackles out of string for the one with spraddle leg. I...
I haven't yet but I have an abundance at the moment so I was thinking of putting a batch on. We tried to correct the feet from day one but they were too badly affected and one had spraddle leg on top of bad feet. My dad was in charge of incubation so I'm unsure of the temperature but he's a...
I currently have 5 Coturnix quail chicks that are 3 weeks old and one of them keeps having these episodes/seizures where his head shakes violently and he reverses with tremendous speed. 2 others had extremely crooked feet and died at about a week old and I had to put the other crooked one down...
