The colors you're playing with this season are all coming out so pretty!! I just got my pearl fee x italian pair to give me a manchurian pearl and I felt special but your colors are out of this world! ❤️
I think Ive seen the colour referred to as cinnamon it's fawn over roux, which sounds possible for your covey. The fawn might explain the Italian looking head pattern
Houston we have pips lol
I went ahead with a 7 day-ish lockdown. Removed the turner and got everyone settled Day 14, upped the humidity Day 17, so kind of a mixed thing. Seems to be working out for these eggs.
The 2nd smallest egg, the largest, and one normal sized egg (above) have pipped...
I didn't even know they could just lay them that way I thought it was always shipping.
That's quite a difference in hatch rates. You think its the heat or some other reason or just the shipping companies? 20%-25% is basically what I've gotten so far out of 3 hatches, the bobwhites I've got...
I hadn't even thought about double yolkers since I've never had one. It makes sense that they'd be more common as one of the many kinds of "weird" eggs that new layers give. This is why I ask more experienced people ❤️
We're using the 28% thats so interesting that it seems to effect laying...
Couldn't help myself with the title haha
So. We started keeping coturnix quail with 4 chicks, ended up being 2 male 2 female. Came from the same breeder but I know they don't share parents, this is important because the girls starting laying at 5 and 6.5 weeks respectively...
So of course my...
Thanks a ton for sharing your perspective ❤️ It makes sense that hens hatched from these small eggs would lay small eggs themselves but is that more of a thing for odd small eggs laid by mature hens or are "pullet eggs", like the eggs laid in the first few weeks, also subject to that? I know...
Thanks a bunch! Thats a lot of chicks to hatch in a year! I really appreciate you lending your experienced perspective ❤️ I hadn't even thought about pipping early I'll probably be watching them like a hawk from day 18 on lol
Is there anything in particular that would make you decide to do a 7...
No air cell is crazy! I didn't think they could fully develop without one.
But that makes a ton of sense! Most of my eggs I have held at the post office, they've had great hatch rates, but these weren't and last time I only hatched 3/15. Same breeder, also not held at the post office, and I...
Thanks a ton, I'll mark them when I do lockdown so I can a close eye on them! Thanks for the link, I had to assist one on my very first hatch and it was a set from the same seller, but I keep losing the link to this one and the other assisted hatch guide haha.
They're so beautiful, they have such large doe eyes 😍 I've got Gambels and Valley in the brooder + bobwhites in the incubator but I've convinced my husband to try Mearns and Blue Scale next spring. Got a lot of building to do in the meantime haha.
You said they're the most docile you've had...
Three is my lucky number 😍😍😍 Angel, Corky, and Bunny ❤️
This was them drying out. I waited a few days to make sure they'd make it, the one I fully assisted had a real rough time the first 2 days, but we're all good here 🙏❤️
Hey fellow egg hatching peoples. I've seen a lot about detached air cells and wobbly air cells and the general advice I've seen is to put them in a good position, barely move them, and pray for the best.
Would that have made this not happen?
Is that what people mean when they say saddled? I...
Hey there general BYC incubating forum! I'm usually exclusively in the quail forum but would love to get as much wisdom as possible from all kinds of hatchers ❤️ I have some smaller than normal BobWhite Quail eggs that I assumed wouldn't develop but absolutely are. Wondering if I should do...
