Bloody egg hatched and dead chick?

Yeah it could have been a rat because I have seen one up at the chicken coop before, my mums cat usually goes up there and kills them though. Wouldn't the rat have partially eaten the baby though? It's body/head doesn't have any bite marks or chunks taken out of it

Bloody egg hatched and dead chick?

Okay so just this morning I went to let the chickens out, feed/water them, etc. and I decide to go check on the nest my hen who had been brooding on. She currently has three live chicks however there are still about 10 eggs left in the nest, she has stopped sitting on them but I've decided to...

    Babies eyes pecked by hens

I'm really upset right now, I've just discovered that my first 3 day old baby chick has been attacked by the other chickens. The chick hatched under one of my hens and I left it there because I don't have a brooder and decided to let them raise it, today I just went to check on the baby and I...

    First egg hatch

Thank you all for the info! I've decided to take half of the eggs away to incubate myself and leave Tilly with maybe a max of 10 eggs since I don't want her to get overwhelmed. She has just started being broody, around 5 days ago however I haven't been marking the eggs so I will start with that...

    First egg hatch

Hi! One of my hens, Tilly, has gone into brooding mood and sitting under around 20 eggs at the moment. I've never had a hen try to hatch eggs before, so before they do hatch I'd like to get some advice and tips! I also have several questions; 1. Once the baby chickens hatch, should I leave them...

    Training a livestock guardian dog

Okay so I'm planning on getting a puppy and training it to become a LGD for my chicken flock due to the presence of wild dingoes and foxes around my place, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips/advice/training guides? I'm unsure what breed I want to get, however I am leaning towards a GSD...

    Meet my chickens!

This is my big boy Pepe, my first chicken and I've had him since only a few days old : ) He is still young, he should be around 6 months old now but he's growing big! He's probably the friendliest chicken I have right now, he loves being petted under his wattles and will lay in your arms, and...

    Chickens sleeping in trees

So I've recently brought three new hens to my flock, the hen and rooster I've been raising have slept in a chicken coop I built for them since they were young, however the three new hens are use to sleeping up in trees. It was quite a surprise for me to see them up there since I've never...

    Rooster eats first

he isn't that aggressive though, he only pecks the hen when there's food around because he wants it for himself but when he's done he will let her eat unless he gets hungry again and she's still at the food. otherwise they get along okay and he's never attacked or chased a person before so what...

    Rooster eats first

I have a rooster who is around 6 months old now, I recently got a hen a few weeks ago who is probably 7 months old now and is slightly bigger than him, and so far whenever I go out to feed them he always eats first, and will peck and chase the hen away when she is eating and will eat her food...

Is my chicken a hen or rooster?

This is him here, his name is Pepe and he is around 2 months old now, he likes to get up early at around 5 AM but so far I haven't heard him ever trying to crow or anything, so I don't know if he is a hen or rooster.
