    HELP - Prolapsed Vent

Sorry that I missed this question. Nadine did recover fully, and ended up laying LARGER eggs than she had previously. Unfortunately, we lost her to the Bobcat that found the flock free ranging.... RIP Nadine.

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

Update! so... my broody Cochin and Easter Egger Bantam decided to both cover the eggs. We candled and 4 of the 5 remaining ended up 'viable'. 3 hatched, the 4th didn't make it. None of the 3 'belong' to either of the hens.. We ended up with 2 babies that belong to my older hens that are...

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

Thank you! Those pics are great, and I have a similar setup so I could probably do something very similar as well. I"ll just need to think it out because our main coop door is right there where the nesting boxes start along the wall, and she chose the 1st one in to be broody... u

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

And they stayed w/the rest of the flock the whole time after you removed the partition w/out having to separate them? I have faith that my Cochin would be able to defend her and her babies... I worry that my EE would be as successful.. she's the size of a pigeon... lol

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

TY! I really didn't expect the stealing to happen... they had the same couple of eggs under them for over a week... then she must have really gotten the broody bug and stole eggs yesterday. The only one I know for sure is one of the original eggs is the little blue bantam EE... the rest I'm not...

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

I think these eggs will span about 10 days... do you think that will cause a big issue? I'm clearly new to letting hens hatch chick themselves... much better at ordering and planning for day old chicks and Tractor Supply babies... lol Edited to Add: There will probably be 2, possibly 3 of the...

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

I need to install a camera in there... lol I just went out and marked the eggs - 7 total after I pulled out the 2 wooden ones that we used to get the new ones to go to the nesting boxes... Should I limit how much I move them? I know when we used to incubate, we would turn them daily, but...

    Broody Hen stealing eggs?

I have two hens (bantam EE & a Partridge Cochin) that were covering one egg each for about a week and a half. I went out to the coop to collect eggs this morning, and the EE is no longer in her nesting box, and her egg (along w/about SIX others) are now under the broody Cochin. Can she...

    Roosters fighting

Hi there! I have two roosters in my flock of 14. My RIR (Buck) is almost 2yrs old, and my White Plymouth Rock (Big T) is almost 1. The Big T is now taller than Buck and has started to challenge him. Last night when all of the hens had put themselves to bed in the coop at dusk, I noticed the...

    HELP - Prolapsed Vent

it was definitely a prolapse w/a huge scab that had formed during the -26* temps we had here last week before I had found her .. :/ I was hoping it was just poop.. and soaked and soaked.. but nope.. that was tissue and I could see where it was 'attached' to her... I would try to remove it...

    HELP - Prolapsed Vent

Thank you so much! Daunting is exactly the feeling I felt until we turned the corner... She will graduate to her diaper tomorrow.. so she isn't so bored all day.. Hubby and I are committed to her gaining weight and laying a few eggs without issue before she re-joins the flock :)
