Just had my three year old talk me into buying 3 buffs orpings to raise this spring to add to our 3 Barred Rocks! Looking forward to this! It was between buff Brahma's and the Orpingtons. The wife got final call and "NO WAY on the ones with feathers on feet... Do not understand it but that is...
i have two adult hens that i am worried about. The one has never layed for me (previous owner swears she laid) and then one who stopped once she molted. Just taking way longer for them to get through all this then i thought.
Ok so they are still roosting on the floor which I have just given into letting them be. The newest issue is they both have been molting for over a month and now one has lost the red vibrent color on her waddle and I just feel like i cannot make them happy. They are eating just fine and acting...
This is kinda what i am leaning towards. See what comes of her. I did have to isolate her due to behavior to the others in the big coop. Today being in her own space she did seem to move around alot and do chicken type activities. Good thing is she does not seem to poop in the coop only run! so...
The biggest variable i do not know is how she was before I got her. Maybe she just never got a chance to roost before and just not going to happen. And we will see what happens cause after her relentless bullying and beating of the younger birds she has gone back to the portable a-frame tractor...
I would agree with this normally but this situation is not normal. A) She is the oldest and biggest.4 of the 5 other birds she is with are only 12 weeks old. she is over a year. B) She has already shown the other birds she can be a bully. Grabbed and flung one of the smaller birds around by the...
So real quick I have a 1 year old (as prev owner told me) and she will not sleep on the roost. Yesterday I transferred my two new/ older birds into the main coop and it seemed to go well just a couple pecks and chases but nothing to bad. Since the day i got them she has done this. I have gone...
@FeatherstoneFrm that is pretty much how she is i mean i have only had her two weeks yesterday, but it almost reminds me of how a dog acts when you come home from work...
So real quick question, one of the two older hens i got from a friend goes crazy walking around and making noises at me every time i come outside or anywhere near her. It is like a constant awk-awk-awk... real low and not overly loud just constant. finally after two weeks of talking quietly...
I would love to know what happened but literally all i did was pick these two out of a flock he was getting rid of and brought them home. I did nothing.
So I picked up two one year (+/-) old hens from a friend and they have been doing pretty well in their a frame coop/ run. My only thing that i find very odd is every morning when i let down the ramp for them they both run out and poop. Maybe this is normal but what i find odd is the fact that...
They are very pretty and hopefully they lay well for me. I have been getting eggs from the guy at two dozen a week for about 2 months before he told me he was getting rid of all his chickens. The two dozen came from 4-5 ducks and about 8 chickens.
