Thanks for the sweet response, I'm so sorry you lost yours the same way. I can't help but wonder what could have caused otherwise very healthy chickens to go through this.
Just put a heat lamp over her crate. She isn't eating or drinking and her head is hanging so low it's resting on the ground.
Any reccomendations for an eggbound bantam chicken? She is 5 months old and I think she is dieing from not being able to lay her first egg!
Thank you for the quick response! I did research on Youtube and ruled out Mareks because she doesn't have the same symptoms (neither toe clutching or paralysis). She also doesn't have wry neck either, although her neck is arched and her body is limp and weak. She was 100% healthy just a couple...
Hi all, I got my first flock of silkies about 5 months ago and no eggs yet. Yesterday I noticed my most advanced hen (fastest in development and most active) acting sick and today shes gotten worse. She has an arched and drooping neck, and is walking akwardly, unable to jump very high. I noticed...
Great thread! From your experience are Bantam Brahmas flighty in terms of being able to fly over a 6ft high fence? My local breeder has some that just hatched! I like to have my girls freerange in the backyard, but since the neighbors dog is just a fence away I'm afraid of getting any bantam...
I was set to pick up my chicks from a local breeder today and he canceled on me last minute. He informed me that San Diego has been under quarantine since yesterday (Friday, March 15th) that no one can mail or transport any chickens in these area codes 90000-93599, unfortunately that includes my...
I also have a silkie chick who seems to have a neurological twitch which has given us quite the scare with the recent Newcastle Disease outbreak in California. After searching symptoms of the disease and taking into consideration the rest of my chicks are perfectly fine, I don't think it is...
Thank you all for your replies! From what I've gathered, it seems like there's always going to be a chance the bantams are going to fly out. I suppose I could trim their wings in an attempt to keep them in the yard when they're not in the coop. About how often do you all trim your bantam wings...
I saw your post on entering the contest for a calendar on my intro post and decided to go for it! Here's the link to my first post and introductory. Thanks for your time!

I have silkies and am looking to expand my flock with a few bantam breeds and want to find out if anyone knows of any breeds that are not very flighty. The local breeder I'm buying from currently has many breeds available in different color variations, but I feel afraid and limited by the...
The tan colored one on that bottom photo is the same chick in the top right in first photo. It looks a little funny with the red light, so heres another of the same two birds, they're in the background and one of the more fluffier chicks in the front. This photo was taken at 3 weeks, they are...
