Six week old chicks, blood in stool after completing 3 days of endocox

I watched droppings obsessively yesterday and did not see any other blood after this dropping. The rest of the day they had normal, formed droppings. I have no idea which chick is periodically having these, but it seems to only be one. This morning I found one dropping with a small amount of...

Six week old chicks, blood in stool after completing 3 days of endocox

I was prepared that my chicks would have potential cocci issues since I had an outbreak last year. I had endocox on had and caught bloody stool VERY quickly in the brooder. I treated for three days with the endocox, but still see occasional bloody stool (1 or 2 of the droppings so far today, out...

Giving chicks soil to build immunity to coccidiosis, but doesn’t that expose them to worms as well?

I am contacting the vet to determine the exact strains they found of coccidiosis. From my reading and the symptoms, I suspect that they had E. Maxima for a period of several weeks, which caused severe damage and inability to absorb nutrients. I was noticing the watery diarrhea for a couple of...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I am writing to provide an update that my hen did not make it. The scabby area spread to blocking her vent which caused her to be unable to use the bathroom. None of my other chickens, including those who share the same coop and run that she did, has had any similar issues- she was the only...

Giving chicks soil to build immunity to coccidiosis, but doesn’t that expose them to worms as well?

My flock experienced coccidiosis (two strains- not the bloody kind) and roundworms this year- I lost nearly half my flock to coccidiosis side effects (damage that they couldn’t recover from even after it was treated). These chickens were all on medicated feed, but both corid and albon failed to...

When it rains it pours- I am seeing lethargy, diarrhea, and anemia in my grow outs. Things were trending better and now worse. Help!

update: I found a roundworm under the roost. After the second round of treatment for worms we are finally back on track! Pullets in this group have started laying :)

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock my pullet is still eating and drinking, but her scabs have continued to spread. While some are lifting, her comb and wattles are basically entirely covered in the thick scabs and they have spread in a line down the front on her neck as well. Her crop area has a large...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I did some searching and ended up giving her a heaping 1/8 of a tsp twice a day. Apparently that should land the dose somewhere on the low end of the range. I don’t have a way to give it it just her in water without dosing all the others in her pen, so that was the best information I could find.

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock Just an update- my pullet is still about the same. She does eat and drink well, but is still working on putting back on the weight she lost. She is on day 5 of amoxicillin now, twice a day. The scabs got much worse on her comb than pictured before they started to...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

Sorry I wasn’t very clear- the reason I’m confused is the amoxicillin package says a dose of”per gallon of water” but since I am only medicating her I am unsure how much to give her individually as a straight dose.

Sorry the label says to mix into a gallon of water, so I’m not sure how much to give her directly as a single chicken dose.

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

The amoxicillin arrives Thursday, but I am not sure how to dose it. It is a 20% powder. @Eggcessive or @Wyorp Rock any tips for dosing? With the vitaking respiratory mix (smz-tmp ,tylosin, doxycycline mix) I was doing 1/8 tsp twice a day. She seems more interested in food today which I’m...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

The edges of some of the scabs on her comb and wattles seem to be lifting now. The tissue underneath appears to be very pale, no bleeding. Not really seeing any changes under her vent yet, though. It’s still pretty yucky. She does seem to be up and about slightly more. Still pretty dragged...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

On the contrary I appreciate how thoroughly you’re trying to help me! No lesions or weird spots in her mouth/throat. I was using triple antibiotic because the lesions seemed very dry to me, but I stopped that two days ago and switched to silver honey. Should I go back to iodine? I have her on...
