Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I would give it as the label says. Normally with amoxicillin capsules the dosage would be 125-250 mg given orally twice a day for 7-10 days.

The edges of some of the scabs on her comb and wattles seem to be lifting now. The tissue underneath appears to be very pale, no bleeding.

Not really seeing any changes under her vent yet, though. It’s still pretty yucky.

She does seem to be up and about slightly more. Still pretty dragged down but not huddling as much/hanging out near her flock mates more.

Today will be day 3 of the monistat for sour crop. Still has a bit of a water balloon crop- hoping that will get better soon?

The amoxicillin arrives Thursday, but I am not sure how to dose it. It is a 20% powder. @Eggcessive or @Wyorp Rock any tips for dosing?

With the vitaking respiratory mix (smz-tmp ,tylosin,doxycycline mix) I was doing 1/8 tsp twice a day.

She seems more interested in food today which I’m taking as a cautiously good sign.

I agree, with the 20% Amoxicillin powder for birds, follow the dosing on the label.

Hopefully the crop issue will resolve. Keep up with the Miconazole for a full 7 days twice a day.
She can eat normally if she's willing.

Sounds like the comb/wattle scabs are healing up and ready to start coming off soon which is good. Pale tissue underneath sounds pretty normal.

Sorry the label says to mix into a gallon of water, so I’m not sure how much to give her directly as a single chicken dose.

I agree, with the 20% Amoxicillin powder for birds, follow the dosing on the label.

Sorry I wasn’t very clear- the reason I’m confused is the amoxicillin package says a dose of”per gallon of water” but since I am only medicating her I am unsure how much to give her individually as a straight dose.

You can make a smaller batch than 1 gallon, that will be o.k.

Just an update- my pullet is still about the same. She does eat and drink well, but is still working on putting back on the weight she lost.

She is on day 5 of amoxicillin now, twice a day.

The scabs got much worse on her comb than pictured before they started to lift, but the ones on her comb and wattles are lifting at the edges.

The scabs on her vent seem to be the most troublesome for her. She is high stepping and tends to sleep a lot of the day. However, she is no longer huddling- she does hang out in proximity to the rest of the flock while napping.

So, nothing has gotten worse but she’s also having very slow progress and her vent area doesn’t seem to be improving at all. The area on her chest is also about the same.

How did you figure the amoxicillin dose to give it twice per day. The powder is put in the water to be taken all day long. Were you able to figure a 125 or 250mg dosage? It is good that she is eating and drinking well, but sorry that she still has the problems with the scabs and high stepping.

I did some searching and ended up giving her a heaping 1/8 of a tsp twice a day. Apparently that should land the dose somewhere on the low end of the range.

I don’t have a way to give it it just her in water without dosing all the others in her pen, so that was the best information I could find.
