Where in Louisiana are you? I'm in New Orleans. I would like a rooster that won't crow all the time and make my neighbors hate me, so this could be a good match. I have a very chill flock of four ladies.
Aw, he looks like just a little boy! I think I am getting called to work on hurricane relief on Saturday but I could come up on Sunday, does that work for you? If so please DM me and we can figure out some details
He sounds very cute and I have been thinking about getting a little banty roo. I'm in New Orleans but I could come up to BR this weekend... does he have mites? I've treated lice before, no sweat, but I've never had a mite outbreak and I am apprehensive about dealing with it.
Can I see yall's coop setups? How do you house your Seramas? I want to get some and I'm not sure if I can just put them in with the big girls long term. I did have one who got along great with the big girls, but since then I've heard they need special care. Where do I start?
Well, I tried it and stuck the two smallest ones under her. The peeps were happy to snuggle up under the hen but the hen was very confused and kind of upset. She jumped out of the box and ran around clucking nonstop and kept checking on the peeps in the box. Finally one jumped out and she pecked...
I have ten chicks that I bought a little less than two weeks ago (May 14). They are getting pretty big and I'm ready to get them out of my house, but I'm worried about the two grown hens attacking them. One of the hens has gone broody. Can I stick these under her at night? Will she fall for it...
OK! I'm trying to follow the rules from my chicken book, but I don't think this chicken book was written by a New Orleanian. I rearranged the lamp and they seem happy now quietly sleeping under their fake feather boa mom.
I got my first batch of chicks and I'm keeping them inside in my spare room because I don't have a safe place outside for them. How much of a temperature gradient do I need in my brooder? It is 83 degrees in here right now. Sweat is dripping off my face (it's gross). They won't stop peeping and...
I'm sure you know this already but you're not going to get three dozen eggs a week out of three birds... if you're lucky you'll get one a day from each. Bannies lay eggs too :)
I have one from Titan that I got on ebay for $80. Installation was not hard. It runs on 4 AAs. I used Rubbermaid shelf brackets for the track and a piece of scrap oak for the door itself. Took me about an hour because I installed it in the dark and kept dropping stuff. Probably could have done...
You could build a ramp to the nesting box, or you could move the hen and chicks into another setup at night. No, they definitely don't need a heat lamp. Chickens go out in the snow and stuff.
