I have a chick-n-hutch. Its always been kept on my screened in front porch and I only use it to brood chicks in. I love it for that purpose.

how do i tell the sex of my 5 week chicks

I can't access the photos but if your talking about Welsummer chicks females have a defined very dark "V" on their head and males have plain heads. This is how they are sexed as day olds. Hope this helps.

Is Free Range Safe for my kids?

My kids, dogs, horses, cats, rabbits, and turkeys all share the farm with my free range chickens. My kids go barefoot(just like I did growing up) and yea they get poop on their feet but they are washable. I have never had an issue with them becoming sick from sharing grounds with the chickens...

Well if it is a goose it WILL be coming to live with you!!! I guess I will take you up on those duck eggs after all. I just hope I do better at hatching ducks than I do hatching chicks. I put 36 eggs in the bator on 3-30-10 and they STILL haven't hatched. Not a single one. I'm getting ready...

    Ummmm...

Quote: Well I am using a styrofoam HovaBator with an auto turner. Temps have fluxed between 98/101. No clue on humidity except that I kept the slots full plus a sponge and I added water to a sponge as needed.

    Ummmm...

I don't have the best luck in candling. I know I had some clear eggs that I had to remove and some with blood rings but others had veins and moving little babies last week. Of course the little babies seemed REALLY small for how far along they were. Only about the size of a quarter kinda...
