Which Marans facebook did you join ???
There are several now. I suggest Marans Fanciers, and Marans Chicken Club USA
there is also Marans Central and Marans Mania,,, and a few others, you may have to be a member of a specific club to join.
Simply ask someone to clarify what the...
I think this male is a crossbred bird,,, NOT a Marans,,, his comb seems incorrect....hence, the incorrect coloring.
ALL varieties of Marans bred to the APA standard ( American) should have feathered legs / outer toe.
Again,,, ALL varieties of Marans bred to the APA standard should have...
They are all looking great Vicki, very consistent which does make it more difficult to decide which to keep but a great situation to be in.
I have a few that will definitely be staying, hoping a few more of the younger ones will step up to the keeper list as well.
Here is one of the blue...
Your Marans are looking good Vicki,, as usual, they are really coming along nicely.
Love the black copper male, splash copper has great shape to him as well.
Keep up the great work !!!
I'll jump on this wagon !!! Great looking young stock.. I saw elsewhere that you posted new photos and just had to take a look.
Love the structure you get from your group. Keep up the great work !!!
And, good luck with your growing juveniles PINK !!!
Hatchery bred Marans will seldom give you the dark egg color you are probably looking for.
I recommend looking for a breeder near you or one that will ship chicks to you that can offer you the egg color you are looking for.
There are Marans groups here on BYC and facebook as well.
Hello Gayla,
Nice to hear from you. I'm so glad you like your trio ! Marans are a great breed, attractive and easy going for the most part. One of my favorite things about them is the Rooster's attitude. None of my guys here are aggressive toward people and that makes them so much easier...
GEEZ !!! First I cringed,,, then I laughed,,, guess I'm not alone ... lol ..... think I'm glad I'm not alone on this one... I'll see what sort of close-ups I can get of it and send them to you Wynette. Definitely has me curious,,, otherwise she's not a bad pullet,
Yes Wynette,, there is just a bit of beak between her comb and the protrusion. When she was younger it seemed more "crusty" and harder tissue than a comb,,,, but, it seems to be getting a bit of pink color to it as she matures although it still seems solid.
Can anyone tell me what this extra piece of flesh / comb is on this pullet ???
She has shown it very early on, hatched mid December, and I have never seen one like it before and she is the only one that seems to have it. She's a rather nice pullet otherwise, with very good size,,, just not...
Great job Zanna ! I like this gal, you should be very happy with the work you've accomplished. Keep up the good work, see you in the " winner's circle "
