if you have bears in the area I would make sure I would have a electric fence hooked up. I did some research for my area and would want to have enough power to carry at lease 5 joules. And have the fence at 3 different levels. One low and the next a foot up and the top about 3 feet up. You want...
You can build a chicken tractor with some 2x4x8 feet and chicken wire for cheep and move them around your yard. You don't need a bottom just sides and a top.
Or again there are some suggestions what everyone said that will work until you can build a stable run
What is the sq footage then 2"x8'.?
When I asked the question, I had 4"x72" which 72" is 6' I was told it was 2 sq feet. So I figured it was by 144" which comes out to 2 sq.
What i have researched 1 sq foot per chicken. You stated 2"x8'. So if i'm correct that equals 8x12=96",x 2"=196" divided by 144". I come up to 1.3 sq feet. Correct me if i'm wrong but you would need more ventilation. My coop is similar to yours and going to put a big tilt up window it the...
The coop is facing SE, closer to the E. The back side has mostly woods where the trees block most wind. I figured I was going to cut out 2, 30"x18" hinged doors in the front below the openings I have now with plexiglass windows. On the triangles I can cut out a 12"x18" hinged vents on each side...
Thanks for your input, like I stated I did my math wrong, i`m glad I asked. I was going to put my run right to left and I didn`t know where my roof line would be. So with your input I will open up the sides with hinges and open the front with hinges also. My run will come off the front and taper...
Thanks for responding. Yes I figured the size wrong. I divided by 12 not 144 for square footage. I haven't done a run yet and I don't know yet how the roof rafter will fall in line with the front wall. I will put in one big or two smaller windows. I still need the cut in the nest box and install...
Good afternoon, I just built a hen house. (I don't have any birds at this point, but will in the spring). the hen house floor is 6x5 with the front being 6 1/2 feet tall with a 4 foot back. it's a lean to roof style. I live in Connecticut, and we can get quite a bit of snow from time to time. so...
