I will give an unconventional answer..
imagine a run for a single chook based on size of chook. Maybe 70cm wide and 4m -5m long. Now you can multiply x at least 10 and place those imagine runs side by side. X 10 assumes some crossover space.
These do not have to be high. 70-90cm will do-saves...
She went broody at that time and will virtually do so on demand, now. I can see them thinking about broodiness well before it happens; it's even in the curious cocking of their head. They see eggs, they start to think. They look back at me and back to the eggs. They check if they are "safe"...
Yes, it doesn't look like an Australorp except if it's the recessive grey/solash.
The chicks vary a lot and after they feather, you will know.
I think send the lady photos and ask which of the heritage breeds are these? And tell her how the eggshells were labelled, (afterwards). She might shed...
My Sussex easily raised 14 chicks but it was Summer. I like giving a few to mum and a few hatch inside but then go to mum, unless sold, to care for. Staggered hatches can work in the incubator as long as there's room. I lock down late (day 19) or even later if the air cells aren't big enough...
That sounds possibly like the normal colour of a black Australorp chick. I have raised them before. Does it look anything like these? They can have a fair bit of yellow. They feather all black.
It doesn't hurt to mention to her and ask what they could be.
Also, Australorp come in 3 colours and one is a rare white. That could explain the yellow chick. 🤞🏻
If she has a mix of heritage breeds, check the ad to see whether they were all running together. Also, she may have mislabelled the eggs but they may still be heritage breeds
Hi there. I fit 3 x 20L feed bags in an unused 240L recycling bin. It had wheels but sits under the verandah. My daily implements, supplements and scoops etc also sit inside this.
More rarely used items such as medication are shelved in the house.
My straw bale is in a large metal drum with...
I think the chick will
make it! I had a developing egg that got really smashed in in one side during incubation. I mended an entire side with candle wax. Hatched fine! They are remarkable at getting out. Assisting too early can kill them so leave to the absolute latest time. Just watch and...
