Eye Swollen Shut. Looks like pus. No respiratory symptoms noted. How to treat?

Can’t see anything, but there is a small scab on the corner of her outer eyelid. So that may be causing irritation. No bad odor, rattling breathing, or sinus drainage. However, I am panicking slightly that she might have aspirated some of the sulfa antibiotic. 😳 I added electrolytes to her...

Eye Swollen Shut. Looks like pus. No respiratory symptoms noted. How to treat?

Hoping to bump this up in the posts for some new replies. We’ve been treating twice per day with saline, removing any pus we can, and putting in terramycin. Also started giving sulfa antibiotic orally (already had it on hand). Issue seems to be limited to the third eye lid. Eyeball seems fine...

Eye Swollen Shut. Looks like pus. No respiratory symptoms noted. How to treat?

How do I treat this myself? I have terramycin ointment and saline solution. Is that sufficient? If so, how often? And how do best I wrangle a wild hen? 😅 This RIR hen is approximately 1.5 years old and basically unhandled. She seemed fine last night, but had one eye swollen and completely shut...

Need roach and ant control; Orange Guard? Nature-cide? Something else?

They are the big palmetto bugs. I know they don’t hurt anything…but they will make me hurt myself. 😂 and I’d prefer they not use my house as a dating service! 😂 Thanks for the idea about the Terro bait! That may really help with the ant problem in the run!

Need roach and ant control; Orange Guard? Nature-cide? Something else?

We are having a huge ant and roach problem in our run and coop. As in, there are a huge number of ants and a lot of huge roaches. 😳😅 We have a light in the run and occasionally go flip it on at night for a few minutes to wake up our girls for some quick roach snacks, but that’s not really an...

10wk old Ameraucanas: blue wheaten? Cockerels?

These two are 10 week old Ameraucanas. They were supposed to be wheaten, but I’m thinking they are actually blue wheaten. I’m also thinking these are both boys, based on the dark colors, suspicious feathers in the saddle region, pointy hackles, and combs that have been this color for the past...

    Week-old Chick Shaking Head/Neck/Wings

Any particular way you recommend getting the coconut oil into her?

    Week-old Chick Shaking Head/Neck/Wings

Good morning! My hubby and I bought some chicks to sneak under our broody hen. They hatched last Wednesday. We picked them up Saturday from the breeder and all seemed good except one had some poop on it’s bum. Sunday afternoon that one’s vent was completely blocked, so I cleaned off the poo. She...

What is you’re experience with differences in chicken /flock behaviour after the old boss has gone?

It was horrible. We are fairly certain it was a raccoon, but there’s a possibility that it was a fox, too. There was some poop left at the scene and the critter had to climb up the wire and over the door to get in. That design flaw has since been corrected with a sturdy board and some new...

What is you’re experience with differences in chicken /flock behaviour after the old boss has gone?

Back in August we lost 13 of our flock of 21 in one night, including our rooster. It took at least 4 weeks for flock dynamics to settle down, partly because we added 6 new pullets into the mix to rebuild. For a while we had 3 mini flocks: the 5 adult hens, the 3 remaining spring pullets we had...

    Molting and Sick?

I looked up this thread just because I wanted to know if Sue was doing well! Glad she is looking better!

    Behavior Change in First Molt?

I didn’t mind at all @HeatherKellyB. I hope you were able to get some answers and that your Sue is doing well. My Barred Rock, one of the Americanas, and an Olive Egger all seemed a bit “off” as they went through their molt. They all hung back from the flock and moped around, even when I let...

    Jersey Giant Pullet or Cockerel?

For anyone who answered “cockerel,” I thought you might want to know that you were correct. 😃 This is Jeepers at 5 months old. He still hasn’t crowed. He’s a big scaredy-chicken. Although he has quite the imposing stare, I don’t think he knows he’s a rooster...which has its good and bad points...

    12 week GLW...pullet or cockerel?

Since the amazingly knowledgeable folks in here correctly identified my Jersey Giant as a cockerel, I figured I’d ask about this young one. Pullet or cockerel? He/she is very bossy towards the others, and has been since about 6 weeks. The reddish of the comb started around week 9.
