Looking for advice on a heritage meat bird

I've done the heritage meat birds and the cornish x. Big difference for sure in size and time. I'm curious to the response of keeping a few Freedom Rangers and hatching eggs from the them. Has anyone done this and had any good luck? They are nice birds and I've just been considering this as...

Okay Chukar folks, I'm in Michigan and looking for some Chukar chicks. Any one know of a Michigan source where I can get about a dozen? Everywhere I have looked wants you to buy 50. Thanks!

Using Straw Just For The Winter?

Hay and straw are much warmer bedding than shavings if you live in the cold like I do. They nest right into it and cuddle up. It's 12 degrees right now and I don't heat the coop, it is inside a very large horse barn but it is very cold. No trouble so far. Still getting two dozen eggs a day...

    Hens won't stop molting

Most equine sweet feeds are 10 or 12 percent protein. Uping the protein sure is a good idea. I feed Purina Layena crumbles and Purina Flockraiser, which is something like 18 percent, for molting or growing birds. And, yes, check for mites!

    raising turkeys

Yes, I'm up at five am cooking turkey.....! Mine were allowed to free range from about ten weeks on. Before that they had a moveable pen that kept them on fresh grass every two days. They were locked in either their pen or as it got cold and windy and snowy up here in the past three-four...

    Giant Broad Breasted Turkeys?????

The "bubbles" is actually green plastic wrap that he was covered with! He is sitting on a wire rack in the pan so I think we'll be okay drippings wise. I can also suck some out if it gets too full. With all of the basting going on, I'll be able to keep close eye on the liquid, I think! Not...

    Giant Broad Breasted Turkeys?????

I didn't want them so large, they were only 20 weeks old. I wanted to process them sooner but all of my customers wanted them fresh not frozen. I warned them they were going to be very large, but I sure didn't think they would be this large....... I am putting Mr. Christmas in the freezer...

    Giant Broad Breasted Turkeys?????

My birds were BB whites. They free ranged all day until about the last month when it was only about half the day. I had to let the chickens have their turn and the turkeys would beat them up if they were all together! I'm in Michigan so they had cold and snow for the past two-three weeks. I...
