So this morning around 8am I look across the street and there is a red fox. Not that it surprises me that there would be foxes around. Where I live is not particularly rural, but there is enough undeveloped area around my house to support some wildlife. Just north in Middletown there have...
JJ, thanks for the reply. I did look up the topic of daytime raccoons, right here on BYC, and there were quite a few posts on the subject. Most did not believe it was a sure sign of a diseased raccoon, but more likely a juvenile, or mother with pups to feed.
Just wanted to relate a little raccoon drama I had yesterday. A medium sized raccoon was out by the chicken coop, and my dog took after it. For whatever reason the raccoon did not make it back over the fence, but ended up in the yard. Foxy (my great mutt) chased it under the shed, then...

I got them from a farm in Lakewood. Very interesting place.
Where is the poultry show on Oct 22?
Thanks
At the State Fairgrounds in Augusta. About 90 minutes from here, but a nice ride. Get the directions here: wwws.njstatefair.org
Look for the big greenhouse to the right as you...

From your description it seems you did not isolate them first - you might want to think about that in the future, as you never know what secret problems they may have brought with them. Where did you find them? Red Bank is not known for it's surfeit of poultry. Are you coming up to...
Thought it was about time I posted an update. Of my five chickens, three ended up being roos. Suffice it to say I have gotten rid of them, and today I replaced them with a young white leghorn, and young RIR, and a year old red comet. Integration with my two pullets went surprisingly easy...
(Sorry, trying to reply to mame1616. Guess I haven't had enough practice with this)
Same name. I just haven't had much of anything to ask or offer. I got most of the coop/run done before the big snow in December, but after that it was hard to find the time to finish. I was just 'chicken...
Just got 5 one-month old chickens yesterday. Not sure of breed, three are orangish, two blackish. It was sort of a rescue thing. Someone had to get rid of young chickens because wife of the house was allergic. Not what I had planned to do, but I guess anything's a start.
I saw that your story was covered at the Red Bank Green website. Although the main story did not comment on the mean behavior of those in attendance, there were quite a few comments in support of you.
Good luck and I hope things work out in your favor.
You might want to ask this on the New Jersey thread in Social Forums "Who am I? Where are you?". I have not gotten to this point in my chicken experience.
"Coop" is completed, as it was built into part of a storage shed. Still working on 8x10 run, and I hope the weather holds for at least part of the weekend so I can get the final wood framing and door completed.
33yardbirds, yes, I am experiencing that indecision regarding exactly what breed to get. I'm leaning toward Australorpes at the moment.
mame1616 We are on the West Side, near the Lincroft border. From what I've read up to 12 fowl of any type are ok as long as they are cooped and not closer...
