That's what I'm thinking (pekin with odd genes) - we bought them as pekins, but we've had pekins before and never had any gray or other colors that they were tipped with. We've had surprise chicks too - it will be fun waiting to see how they turn out.
We have had pekins before and these look just like them except for a tinge of gray down their backs. (it is hard to see the gray on them in the picture - the one in the bottom right you can see it a little). I can't find any other breed that they resemble. What do you all think?
Nothing yet. (My husband sent the info) One of the commissioners hadn't heard there was a petition and requested links and more info, so my husband sent it, but that was as far as we've heard. It may need to be brought up to the board officially before anything more can be done.
We have 4 out of a flock of 10 birds total and really love ours - all four are very sweet and calm with the other chickens in the flock. We've never had pecking issues from any of our flock. We got ours from a friend that incubates/hatches eggs from his flock. I'm not sure what line his came...
Lonesome Dove moved, but I'm not sure of the new address. I called a few weeks ago and talked to someone there about the swaps, but she said that they might start something up again after January. They were still arranging things at the new store.
There is a 2nd Saturday swap near Plant City...
Just for some updates for anyone in the Central FL area, I talked to Lonesome Dove today and they are planning on doing auctions starting in January, but sinc ethey moved locations haven't been doing the swaps. Friend them on Facebook for more updates (https://www.facebook.com/lonesomedove.feed)...
I am wondering about this one - This is our first go with incubating chicks. We set 29 eggs. So far, 5 have hatched with lots more wobbling and pipping. One pipped yesterday morning and is zipped about 2/3 around - looks like much more than the other chicks that have already hatched. It...
We live in Temple Terrace, NE of Tampa, but our farm is in Dover. Not far from someone that lives in Brandon! We are also starting to raise chicks & eggs to help us in our self-sufficiency and to get away from running our businesses. We're looking forward to transitioning to farm life full...
We weren't going to incubate these two... we don't know when the first was layed and thought it might be too late by tomorrow. We'll start with the ones we get afterwards!
Yippee! That was a complete surprise! I googled turkey eggs and that is exactly what they look like. We're going to put these in the fridge, but will get an incubator tomorrow. We're in Florida, but everything we read said that they are normally at least 8-9 months old before they lay, so we...
We do have 2 narragansett hens and 1 or 2 red bourbon hens (not sure about one of them - acts more like a tom, but doesn't look like our narragansett tom at all and not quite like our hens either...)
We didn't expect the turkeys or ducks to lay until spring and then I forgot about our turkey...
We have a silkie mix, 14 white leghorns and 3 pekin ducks that could be the right momma... we found them this morning in the chicken coop, but one was buried in the dirt and the other was just outside the coop on the dirt. A couple of the leghorns have gotten curious about the nesting boxes...
