Ok, thanks :)
I don't think it's 'sour' as she seems fine and happy, so I will just keep an eye on her and see how she goes. I think she might normally have quite a big crop, but I've not really checked it before (she is the lowest in the pecking order, and doesn't like people much. She's not...
Thanks everyone. She is still broody, and despite looking I have been unable to find eggs for her to hatch in town. So I have put her in a separate 'broody buster' pen, we will see what happens. I noticed today that she seems to be missing a heap of feathers from her breast/belly. Also her crop...
Hi all.
I have a mixed flock of 6 hens. 4 Isa Browns and 2 unidentifed white ones!
One of the white ones, 'Fancy Pants' is a different breed, with lots of feathers that go all down her legs. The other hens have never liked her, she gets bullied a little, and is always apart from the flock...
Does any body have any other suggestions? I couldn't find too much in the other threads. I've only gotten 3 eggs from them since I first posted this :( I'm a bit worried about the poor girls
Hi All,
My girls seem to be off the lay for the first time ever, and I'm not sure why? They are about 2 years old. I was getting between 4-6 eggs daily (6 chooks), but for the last few weeks I am only getting one every few days. It's been real hot lately (mid to high 30sC) but this is Karratha...
OK, that one is Fancy (short for Fancy-Pants!) I'm trying to upload a photo of Captain Cluck as she is different, but having problems with it. Me and computers don't mix
Well, that's seriously not working. They have spent all day being picked on and bullied. They are seriously not coping with the stress, and I doubt the heat is helping (got to 37, which is 98.6). The flock have been restricting their access to food and water. One is so cowered she will not move...
OK, thank you for all your advise
I think for now I will leave them as is, and intensely supervise all day. Hopefully they will all start to get along If not I might have to pull out the 'ringleader' for a while. Do you think I should let the new ones out to roam today with the flock? I'm a...
I didn't think to segregate them first, and now am just trying to make the best of it :( Very new at this, and really have no experience with chickens.
The girls are let out every day to roam, at which point they have access to half of the backyard. I used the recommended space of 0.8 - 0.9...
They should have enough space, the run is 3m x 1.8m, with a large coop inside that. The coop is on stumps to give them access to the dirt and shade under it (as it gets super hot here year round) There are multiple roosts both inside and out, so they can seperate easily.
I guess I'll just have...
