I do know they can do that. I worked at a pet store for years and that happend to one of the lizards with a superworm. I freeze mealies for at least 3 days before feeding that way they are not able to put up a fight for my smaller pets. The bigger chickens should be fine as they kill things...
I got 50 mealies today to start my farm. I am starting small because when I had them before it didn't take long to have way more than I wanted. Some of mine are pretty big so I will be on the look out for a beetle soon. So happy that my chicks will have nice juicy mealies to eat when they hatch!
Yeah I never thought I would get so attached to a chicken egg! I do have 3 dozen and counting still to hatch in the next 21 days so I guess thats 3 dozen chances. I have hatched before but its been years. Now that I have my own human babies I tend to attach to everything! lol
Bump! Please I have 15 of these little things. All wings are long, short, long, short so if that method works on this breed they should all be girls. Im which case I would be looking for a Roo to go with them and mom. But if one or more is a roo then I don't want to buy another as the males...
These are 3 of my 15 Am Game chicks I got at an auction. I was wondering how to sex this breed? I have never owned this before now. I was also wondering if anyone can post pics of what these colors or patterns grow up to look like. Sorry the good pic I took will not upload. Can anyone tell...
I feed home grown fodder to all my critters (except the dogs tho even they steal some from the horses). My chickens and rabbits love the stuff. You can feed just sprouts (2-3days old) to your chicken tho I like to give mine all the greens the 7 day cycle makes.
The little guy/gal in egg #1 is half out now. The temp and humidity change must have worked wonders. I woke up and looked thru the dome and his little beak was sticking out. Now he has a wing and a foot out too!!! He looks to be resting for that last big push. I can see him breathing so I'm...
It looks like there is plenty of moisture now my observation dome has some condensation on it. Also, my bator has two vents one on top and one on the side. When the top one (a very small drilled hole) lets air out that pulls new air in the side (silt) near the light. I can see chick #1 seems...
2 RIR due tomorrow, 5 more due 2 days later, 15 RIR due around the 1st and 13 RIR due June 8th. All in homemade bators. My RIR hen "Ginger" may be going broody too! Looking at getting some EE too. Maybe I need to join the bator addicts? lol
Ok so I got my bator to 102 degrees and put plenty of warm water (about 8ozs) in a bowl in the back. I took out the eggs that are not on lock down and wet the rag the two open ones are laying on. The chick in egg #1 has really been kicking around so I'm hoping his new wet environment helps him...
