haha, I'm at my limit with 9. I live in a neighborhood with an HOA so I'm technically not even supposed to have chickens.
My Chickadee is a Rhode Island Red or Production Red. She has actually been getting on the roost with the big girls herself for the past 4 nights. I've had to put her up...
that stinks. If it makes you feel better I only had 1 hatch in Dec so I bought it 1 friend and then hatched more in january. The one that I hatched in Dec turned out to be a roo so I sold him and now the one I bought is super lonely because it doesn't fit in with my 4 1 yr olds or my 4 that I...
haha, you don't have to be sorry. It stinks because I really wanted a white silkie and his coloring is so awesome but I've had him pegged for a roo for a LONG time now. I think I'm 2 for 2 on guessing which of mine have been roos early on even when people have thought pullet. Maybe next time...
so I posted this a few days ago and also said this chicken was 14 weeks old but I just recounted and it's actually only 13 weeks. Here are some updated pics. I'm like 98% sure it's a roo but it hasn't crowed. Just want to get some opinions before I line up a buyer for him.
Oh ya I won't get rid of any until I'm absolutely sure. About a month ago I had a Barred rock who I had really thought was a roo even though a lot of people said it was a hen. He crowed at 12 weeks and I had to sell him but I tried to be in denial right up until he crowed because I didn't want...
thanks for your response. I've felt for a while now that the white one is probably a roo, too bad because it's getting some nice colored feathers coming in. It just looks and acts different than the other 3. Time will tell I guess, I just wondered.
Here are some pics of my almost 12 week old silkie mixes. Sorry not great pics but hopefully you can give guesses on gender, if not I'll take better pics tomorrow. 1 white and 2 blacks, the buff colored one is an easter egger but if you have a guess on its gender that would be great too...
I am so happy my mistake didn't end with a sad mama and 12 orphaned ducklings. We also saw 2 other big ducks with them so their must be a whole flock around here I never even noticed before.
