5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

Yeah I usually use a smaller one but haven't been able to find it and with quarantine haven't been been able to run out and buy another. I guess I'll try and go out to get those things though.

5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

I give ACV in their water. Feed is unmedicated since they are vaccinated. Shavings are pine. I bought some nutri drench with my first flock. I can try and find where that is maybe and give them that.

5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

Here's my set up. I just grabbed a few cycle to do an inspection and found one with a bad case of pastry butt. The dead ones didn't have that though. I'm starting to wonder if they aren't using the waterer. I dipped their beaks the first day but haven't caught them using it much since. I try...

5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

Well I just lost another one. Found them exact same way in exact same spot under plate heater. Last night most were sleeping outside the plate so my husband raised it up a bit higher in case it was too warm. Now I check on them in the morning and another dead. Argggh! What are we doing wrong...

5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

Basement is around 60°F. I only have the heat plate going. I do have a heat lamp but am not currently using it. They seem fine to venture around the brooder and then return to the plate when they need it. Half the time I check on them most are venturing around, not huddled.

5 day old chick found dead under heat plate.

So I've got a fresh flock from a Cackle surprise box. I believe there were 19 when I received them on Friday. I just built a big wooden brooder for our basement. It has a red LED light, water, wet grain and a brooder heat plate. (The one recommended for 20 chicks) This morning I went to...

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

Oh god, so the next question. What's the best way to take care of it? We have a .22 but that seems like overkill and I'd be worried about ricochet on the cage.

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

Hoo boy, so lots to respond to... Ohzark, you read my mind. I currently have 2 small haveaheart traps set up outside with some raw chicken in them. One in the run, right by the bloodiest crime scene and the other in the coop near our theorized point of entry. I DO have a trail cam and have...

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

I appreciate the help so i'll do my best to explain our set up. It's hard to get a good contextual photo of the whole thing, so I'm including some old photos from the construction along with a diagram. We built the coop into the back of one of our barn's lean-tos. It's about 10x12 ft. We...

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

We have 6 hens and a rooster left. We have pond on the property and did find a small tunnel into the coop via the barn. We plugged that with some stone at least. But now i see all sorts of gaps everywhere in the barn siding. The only secure place i can think for them is the basement...i...

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

Ok, so I think it's safe to say it's a weasel now. Found another hen this morning, and she was actually nibbled on in the chest area. So I'm about to rush out the door for traps. Our run is 10 ft x 30 ft and our coop is basically a sequestered part of our barn so I have no idea what our long...

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

We've just been through a thaw. So not much at this point. More of a patchwork. I'll try and get a pic this morning of the recent hen death.

Back to back hen deaths in 24 hours

Hello everyone, We're in NH. So this morning my poor husband discovered one of our original hens (2 years old) dead in the chicken run, right under the hanging waterer. She was on her side, had no noticeable wounds other than some reddish marks on her neck. My husband assumed it was from the...

6 week old pullet acting depressed

Been feeding them unmediated Purina brand chicken feed. They were vaccinated for Marek's at birth. I should be able to get some Nutridrench. Thanks for the pointer!
