    Roosters with layers okay?

For our very first chickens ever, we ordered a laying hen assortment from McMurray. To our surprise we got two Polish crested roosters also. Although beautiful, these roosters seems to cause strife among our hens, and they are just reaching laying age. Should we keep the roosters separtate...

Beware of AMDRO FIRE ANT KILLER!!

You are correct. i was just now searching for answers to why one of our layers was sick for two days, then woke up dead one morning. I had suspicions about Amdro, as i had just put out copious amounts of it a few days before. Actually i have two large bags I was about to broadcast over...

De-beaking for chicks? I've got a mean one.

I was unaware that debeaking was an issue. Chickens are food and produce food. I'm not hugging trees, either. Talk to me about animal cruelty after we have banned human abortion. This is just a problem to be solved. It has no humanitarian element.

De-beaking for chicks? I've got a mean one.

Does anyone have any experience with de-beaking a chick to keep it from hurting other chicks? I have a really aggressive one that I'm keeping isolated.

One eye closed, one pecker in time out, and rice hulls?

Do you know anything about de-beaking? Just the tip of course. I wonder if that would solve anything. Even if she still pecked, she couldn't hurt them as much.

One eye closed, one pecker in time out, and rice hulls?

Little update on my chicks. The one eyes all have both eyes open now, and seem fine. They are five days old. Obviously a birth holdover. The little demon pecker has been isolated, and everytime I put her back with the others, she's at it again, very aggressively. I put one in with her...

One eye closed, one pecker in time out, and rice hulls?

I appreciate your answers. Its possible my little pecker caused those one eyed chicks, he's attracted to them the most because of their bright yellow tophats I think. And he was in a box with them from Iowa to Texas in snail mail for three days. Yes their eyes appear pasted shut, not bloody...

One eye closed, one pecker in time out, and rice hulls?

Ok, got your attention. I'm brand new to chicks but I ordered 25 mixed layer pullet chicks from McMurray. They arrived alive, but three of one variety, look like polish with yellow topknot, have one eye closed all the time. Will this open later? I have one little pecker I have had...

Is this a chick? If so, advice appreciated!

I just received a mixed layer order from McMurray, and I have about six of those chicks. Being a newbie I have no idea what kind of layer it is, but it is a pullet layer of some type. It is not a pheasant.
