    Hen readopted chicks

Hi, bit of a long story but here goes. So I had a broody hen, a golden wyandotte, hatch out 4 chicks june 1st. At about june 30th she decided she was done being mom. She started chasing them off and pecking them, sometimes hard. A bit early but then she wasnt a great mom. Anyways she became...

6 week old buff Orpington sex pullet or rooster?

He was just over a year there and unfortunetely no. He became pretty aggressive when getting close to a year old and then when I started letting a broody hen sit on eggs he would come in and smash and eat the eggs she was sitting on. So we had to get rid of him. Though from what I've read...

6 week old buff Orpington sex pullet or rooster?

He started crowing I'd say at about 4 to 5 months. I'm not positive though sorry, keeping track of time isn't my best skill. But he had a magnificent crow.

This was my buff orpington at about the same age and he was a rooster. A big one too.

    New to Chickens

For sure. He's also amazing with the hens. He will do the egg song with them, and even with the neighbors hens. And he will stick his head into the coop and chear on any hens who are laying.

    New to Chickens

My first batch of chicks weren't from my rooster either, but he would still call them over, hand them meal worms I was feeding them, make sure the other hens wouldn't bully them. Even when mom moved on he still looked after the babies, even chasing her away when she started getting eoufh with...

    New to Chickens

Hi that's actually kind of what I've been trying to research in another thread. I thought he was at first but my friend discovered a local breed called aloha chicken that is very similar to SFH. He showed up in a friends yard and she can't have roosters and neither can anyone within a few miles...

    Interesting Rooster

The funny thing is reading about both breeds they are very similar in appearance and personality. So it almost doesn't matter. I would just like to know for sure.

    Interesting Rooster

Yes he does look quite similar. Looking at pictures of SFH is what made me think he was. But after discovering the Aloha and considering my location it's more likely he is Aloha but I have no idea how to even tell. But he is a fantastic rooster. Looks after the girls, will break up fights, keep...

    New to Chickens

So I'll give you my list. My 4 original hens from last year are a gold wyandotte, a gold Hamburg mix, an Americana, and a partridge cochin. I had a buff orpington rooster as well who father 2 of my "teens" from april with the wyandotte. But he started smashing and eating the eggs during the...

    Interesting Rooster

Lol yes that's pretty much it. He knows I bring food and veggies for his flock so he likes me in there, but has never liked being touched or me getting to close so he gives me those kind of looks the whole time I'm out there.

    Interesting Rooster

So a friend of mine who lives in an area where I believe the whole city can't have roosters. One day she found a rooster in her yard. It had to have traveled far to get there as no one near by can have roosters as I said. So she couldn't keep it but I live out in the country and had to get rid...

    New to Chickens

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I started with my chickens last year in April. My first set of Hens grew up and with my Rooster I hatched out some babies. I have a "teenage" group of chicks from march and a baby group born on June 1st. (2) How many chickens do you...
