I have 5, and I've had them on chick starter 20% protein.
they've seemed to be doing okay but I just read I'm supposed to feed them higher protein.
I don't have a higher protein available.
should I add meal worms or something to their daily ration?
I just came across these and was not...
it ended up being fine. it walked backwards a lot when it finally was standing and then suddenly we couldn't tell it apart from the other ones.
I did put it in a sock to hold it upright until it was putting it's legs under itself and then treated it like spraddle leg. with the bandaids etc...
well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to cull this little one. there's no improvement at all and it's already starting to get picked on... it can't get to food and water on it's own, or even out of the heat source.
i will try spraddle leg binding just in case that helps but I don't think it will.
so it hatched in the night and was unfortunately stuck upside down for a long period of time.... so for a while I couldn't get him to right himself.
I put him in a sock and he is now staying up right but he's pushing his legs straight out in front of himself and can kind of move around but...
I did a warm damp towel over the opening that I would lift aside...
broke down and took out the 14 that were in there. :)
then I crumpled up the warm damp towel and put it on the bottom of the 'bator.
How do you prevent excess moisture loss?
any tips on that?
last time I did the more hand's on 4 little ones got shrink wrapped.
:(
I got them out safely but still... I'm now very worried about that too.
I've been reading so much that people's hatch rates are better with lockdown...
I'm so torn.
I want better hatch rates but I don't like all the extra shells and movement in there.
I mean, Momma Hen takes out the shells and also sits on them so they're not so rambunctious.
so I want to wait until tonight to take out the hatched chicks... but that will be in the 48 hr range. It feels like a long time for the first little one to be in the hatcher. will it be okay?
I know they say 24-72 hours after hatch they're fine without food and water but that's a huge...
Thank you @RavynFallen
I will do that... he's in the little 'bator now having some "me time" hoping he will stretch out. there's one more to go... there were 4 shrink wrapped... :/ 2 were fine with a little help zipping, then him and one more I'm slowly working on... we thought it was...
