On Thursday my rooster stopped crowing. His R. eye is closed shut and he won't eat. I started feeding him with a spoon and noticed he has a canker sore in his mouth. He won't eat on his own, his poop in soft white with some green in it. He sounds a little congested and has yellow crusty stuff...
look up fowl pox and see if any similarities fit. I am dealing with fowl pox now in my flock. 2 weeks ago I had a very weak and lethargic hen and after 2 days of this she laid down and would have died but we culled her instead. Now this morning my rooster is acting the same way. I got some...
This morning my rooster did not crow. He has a watery eye, he stands in one place and with both eyes closed, his neck isn't stretched out as usual and he isn't crowing, eating or drinking. 2 weeks ago we saw these similar symptoms in a hen and she eventually a few days later she laid down and...
Hi,
My rooster has picked out his back feathers - the feathers at the base of his back. I assume that he is picking his own feathers...maybe not. I have a lot of trouble with my hens picking their neck feathers out. I have searched for mites and don't see anything crawling on them. I do see...
Yes, there is another egg coming 1/2 out stuck. I put her in a warm tub with vaseline, babyoil and was able to get the egg but her insides are still out. My husband and I are thinking about "culling" her but don't know how to do it. We just don't know what to do and I'm crying over this...
I also have a sick/egg-bound? chicken. What do you mean you "culled" her and how did you do it?
Thanks
Rhaena
You can see my post today called egg-bound in the emergency section.
Thanks,
Rhaena
Yesterday I found my 2 yr. old RIR with an egg stuck 1/2 out of her, with part of her insides coming outside also stuck to the egg. I freaked out and took her to my vet who applied some lidocaine to the area then slighty cut the egg out and pushed her insides back in her...$52. later we went...
do you ever see them pick their neck feathers clean off when they are molting? Also, on one of the pics I saw one with a red swollen butt - is that also a sign of molting? 2 of my RIR have both the above.
-thanks
Rhaena
I have posted several times about my RIR hens picking the feathers off of their necks. I haven't had any luck stopping the behavior. I have cleaned their coop but was wondering how good I should clean it. What do you do? Do I need to take the roosts out and scrub them with bleach - or is...
After all the rain we have had lately, the chicken yard has turned to muck! Are there any chicken problems related to them walking around in mud for most of the day? They do get out of their yard to free range for about 4 hours in the afternoon - once our dog is brought back inside.
Thanks.
I posted a question about DE in this section and in the everything else chicken section and I got a good response in the previous section with a link to a website where I ordered the right stuff. You may want to check it out. I posted it yestereday 7/18... and titled it DE question. Good luck.
Wow! Thanks so much for writing me back. I will return the stuff I bought today, and I've already ordered the food grade DE from the website from the link you gave me. Thanks again, and I'm glad I wrote and asked before dusting my girls.
I have read a lot on the forum about DE. I bought some from my feed store today, but nowhere on the package does it say "food grade". The powder is white like flour, and the brand name is Natural Guard. The Active ingredients are Silicon dioxide from diatomaceous earth ...85%, other elemental...

hi,
I posted a pic of my hens with feathers plucked clean off their necks. I think they may have mites...are any of your hens missing feathers? Would you take a look at my picture and let me know what you think...also where did you buy the DE and what exactly does DE stand for? My post with...
