I’m trying to establish a free range flick of Muscovy ducks here on my farm in central Ky. I have a clean two acre pond about 400 yards from my house. Probably 50/50 trees and open space. Bought 4 adults and one left immediately and the other three were lost to predators over the next month. I...
Thanks for your reply. I don’t quite understand what you mean about a cage for at night. Just an open dog crate? Would I have to herd them in and close the door to protect against predators? I do have trees on maybe 50% of shoreline. Will they roost in the trees? If I feed them will they hang...
I have heard great things about Muscovy ducks and would like to start a flock on my two acre pond. I have a clean two acre pond about 600 yards from the house. What kind of shelter will I need to provide? What about predators? If I give them feed will they hang around or will I have to clip...
I just built a chicken tractor using 4' sheep and goat panels. It's a lot heavier than I expected. My problem is when I move it the chickens will just stand there and be run over by the bottom edge (3" PVC) of the tractor. I try to go very slow but sometimes they just won't get out of the way...
I think I have a mite problem. My birds are loosing feathers and are having trouble walking. I treated them with a dust bath os sand diamatecious earth laced with Sevin Dust but have seen no improvement. What do I do?
I had 5 hens and a rooster in a cage 24" X 30". They are all September hatch-lings. I guess I'll have to find a way to get the newby associated with the flock but safe from them until they get familiar like in the articale suggested above.
My hen are attacking my roosters, pecking at their eye and leaving them a bloody pulp near dead. I removed the old rooster and introduced a younger one and they nearly killed him too.
I'm fairly new to quail and have been raising them since October. I bought 6 young Coturnix quail (5 hens and 1 rooster). I've had 4 hatching so far with the first at about 30% and the last three at under 10%.
I'm using a forced air incubator from Farm Innovators. It's a Pro Series Incubator...
I bought 6 (5 hens and 1 roo) Japanese Coturnix quail two weeks ago. They are supposed to be August/Sept hatch-ling. I brought them home fully expecting them to begin laying nearly immediately. I have yet to get an egg. I'm giving them 23% protein show bird feed at the moment until I can get...
