Moved my 4 week old chick to their coop 3 days ago. They have spent two successful nights in their coop with the heat lamp. I really think they are loving it
No, no, I meant the flowers come to life and attack the bees, shoo-ing them away. Lol.
Really need to read my post before hitting reply. Oh well, I got a good chuckle out of my post. Hope you did too!
I went ahead and planted a large Marigold garden at the end of my vegetable garden. Even if my birds do not like them they are a beautiful flower that does attack bees for pollination.
R2Elk, I hear chicken love to eat marigolds I was going to plant some today just to pick and give them later when the are outside. Could you give me your opinion? Do chicken like eating marigolds? Is this a good idea?
My chickens are now 2 weeks and 1 day old. I weighed them in on the postal scale yesterday and they have literally doubled in size from last week's weigh in. Going to give them a larger brood today. When I switch their brood it will be their third brood thus far. Chicken farming is so much fun!
It is JYO, but I am going to have to agree with you. Raising Chickens weather for layers, fryers, or family pet doesn't need to be cruel. I am done investigating this subject, I am not doing it. I will trust add some netting or wire over top of run. Thanks
I was hoping to make another spot in the back yard behind the shed and raise a few fryers, but the 4ft fence don't sound like it will keep them in till they are 4 months and ready for butchering. Oh well on to plan two!
Red horse ranch, thank you, your post was very helpful indeed. My chicks are not quite two weeks old but was really worried how I might be able to keep them inside an entire 8 weeks. I hope to be able to do as you suggested around 4-5 weeks.
Yea, I am a small time chicken farmer compared to you. My brood is in the house, in the middle of my dinning room table.
My run is not heated either, but I do plan on putting either a light or a pad in our small coop.
Was nice chatting about this subject with you. May you chicks stay warm, and...
