Oooh fun! I would say the first is the golden pearl? Having side by side pics really helps thank you! Certainly makes them look less alike.
I haven’t even started thinking about the fact that they can be two morphs 🤣 like cinnamon & golden pearl at the same time haha
Thankyou!
How do you tell the golden pearl from the wildtype in females? I can see the pattern on the head is different (more of a dark cap on the wildtype) but the rest of the bird looks so similar to me 😅 I’m sure it’s just my untrained eye but interested to see what traits I’m overlooking
Hi all!
I am extraordinarily bad at identifying button quail colour morphs so I’m hoping you good people would like to have a look at my newest quail and give your opinions!
Below are 3 birds (2 pics each). I’m most interested in the weird silver/brown combo. I have 3 like it and they all...
Aw that really sucks! My hen isn’t afraid of the male that pecks her, she doesn’t seem to care at all which is weird..
Maybe Leo & Speckles would accept new mates if they can’t see or hear each other for a bit?? Might be keeping their spark alive hahah
Thankyou @Nabiki & @CliftonQuail for the info & advice! Hopefully I’ve got at least 1 male in the brooder and when he’s of age I’ll introduce the males after cleaning and rearranging & hopefully that helps the dynamic and stops the feather pecking! Fingers crossed 😅
Will do! Is the finch seed to high in fat?? Or just not beneficial so a waste of time?
I’ll try 2 pairs as I know they often go better in pairs, I just thought it was strange as it’s his “girlfriend” that he’s pecking, not the lone female.
I might remove the male for the moment to give the...
I believe so, they’re on gamebird crumbles which are 24% protein & some finch seed mix. Females get calcium grit as well.
Enclosure is 5.4ft x 2ft. They’ve got an enclosed hide area on one end and clumps of grass growing throughout the enclosure (it’s wire & outside) that provide cover & a way...
I have a problem with my adult button quail and I don’t know what’s causing it or the best way to fix it!
I’ve got 3 adult button quail together, 1 male and 2 females. The dynamic seems very peaceful, my male is paired with one of the females (cheryl) and mates with her and basically ignores...
Thankyou! I’ll see how they go and alter from there.
I’m usually at work throughout the day but my gut tells me they won’t need heating during the day.
I keep reptiles so I have heaps of heat lamps to use if needed!
Is a fan okay to use for cooling if they start panting? Or would something...
Hi Everybody!
I’m new to incubating/raising chicks so apologies in advance for the novel haha
I currently have my eggs in lockdown and am setting up my brooder in the meantime.
The questions I have are around the brooder temps. Where I live is super hot at the moment, sometimes a bit hotter...
