I could believe snake, except he would be swallowing 4-7 eggs everyday. There are no shells or signs that the eggs were there. 3 weeks ago something got a few of my hens. They acted really strange around the start of it now that you mention it. They didn't want to come out into their fenced in...
I have 7 hens, 1 female peckin duck and 2 bantam hens. All were laying eggs last week at about 75% rate everyday. A week ago it just stopped. Every single one of them. I haven't gotten 1 duck egg. I've gotten 2 bantam eggs and 2 regular eggs in the last week. What gives?
I've had chickens and ducks for a couple years now. I have a very loyal and faithful German Shepard named maverick as well. He was a pup when I got my first few chickens, and he is now 3. He has always been good with them and "herded" them if you will, but never caused any harm to them. He has...
No, no problems putting them together, they all kinda stayed to their original groups, but are now starting to mingle amongst each other. The new hens are beautiful and healthy.
I built boxes for my hens in the typical style...3 18 cubic inch boxes on each set with a perch outside. I put nice bedding material inside and put it in a private corner in the coop. They have nothing to do with it other than to sleep. Every one of them lays their egg in the 5 gal bucket I have...
I brought the new ladies hens home Saturday evening...they laid no eggs til Monday, which I'm pretty sure was the same day that my original flock quit laying as many. I still get a few from them, but not like it was, and it seems to be the same eggs missing everyday.
I have had a flock of 9 brown hens that have been laying between 7 & 8 eggs a day all spring. I answered a craigslist ad and brought home 9 more laying hens of different breeds last week. I still get the same amount of eggs, and it appears that most of them are from the new hens and not my...
Thank you! I didn't think to watch for constipation, but I will now. My remaining chicks seem to be doing very well. They are in the bottom half of a large dog kennel that I converted into a brooder. The temp at the light is about 95 degrees. They have plenty of water, and it's a large brooder...
:( sadly yes. Another one started doing the same behavior as well. I chose to cull it this morning since it was unable to stand before I left for work. The other 13 seem to be just fine and dandy though. Fingers crossed...how did you make out?
That sounds like a coincidence too...I had one that somehow managed to get itself completely soaked in the water dish in the middle of the night. I dried it off and it dried and fluffed up under the lamp and they all seemed fine,(there are 15) maybe this is the same one in my case as well
This sounds exactly the same as my situation. The only thing I can think of is that I moved them from the small box brooder to a dog kennel that I converted into a chick brooder. I've never had any problems before with this brooder, but when I checked the temp, is was a little cooler than what...
Hi all! I have some 4-5 day old chicks that I incubated and hatched last week. They all seemed to be doing well until yesterday. I noticed one was unwilling or unable to stay awake much less stand or eat or drink. I've tried hand feeding yogurt and watering, but with no improvement, now today...
I'm stoked to be able to join this site! I started out with a small backyard flock and am gradually increasing it's size. Chickens are addicting :). Happy pecking
