Splash Silkie Hen and Satin Partridge Roo Babies!

Hello there! I recently hatched a handful of chicks that came from a splash silkie hen and (what I believe is) a satin partridge rooster. The results were unexpected to say the least! Not that I knew much about what to expect in the first place, that is. Here they are, about 5-6 weeks old...

Sluggish silkie hen, possibly egg bound?

Quick update: I mashed some layer feed and water. She will eat it every once in a while if I present a small portion with my finger. Still hasn't had any water. It seems she did lay this morning, because my husband collected the eggs yesterday evening and there was another silkie sized egg in...

Sluggish silkie hen, possibly egg bound?

Ok, I was able to insert my finger about an inch and I could feel an egg.

Sluggish silkie hen, possibly egg bound?

She's about a year and a half old. She gets layer feed, and lays usually every other day. It had been 90F for the past few days. I will try to check the vent again when my husband gets home.

Sluggish silkie hen, possibly egg bound?

Hello everyone! I let the chickens into the yard this afternoon and noticed my silkie hen was not following the flock. For the last few hours she's been hardly walking, standing somewhat crouched, and not interested in eating. I can't get her to drink water, but she will occasionally take some...

Spots on Tail Feathers - Parasites?

Thanks for the response! I was wondering if a little mud or dirt could make the same discoloration. It’s been so wet lately due to snow melt that I wouldn’t be surprised!

Spots on Tail Feathers - Parasites?

Hello folks! I noticed a couple of my hens have these dark spots on their tail feathers (pics below). I recall from my studies of avian parasites that this could be frass from mites or lice, but upon inspecting their vents/necks/wings and their coop, I cannot find any other signs of pests. Is...

Rooster Survived Coyote Attack - Now Not Eating/Drinking, Gurgling

Hey folks! I posted here yesterday regarding my rooster who managed to survive a coyote attack (9/10/19) with just a few scrapes and a whole lot of missing feathers. I put him in the coop to roost last night, but this morning he would not come out of the corner, just standing there, even when...

Rooster with No Feathers on his Rear - Can He Stay Outside?

Thank you for the advice everyone! I put him in the coop with the rest tonight after dusk so they weren’t too rambunctious, hopefully they’ll wake up tomorrow and think he’s been there the whole time ahaha. Watching him today, I have to wonder if he didn’t get knocked around a bit or have some...

Rooster with No Feathers on his Rear - Can He Stay Outside?

Ah, that was silly of me; here’s a picture. The blue that you see was a scrape, I think from the thorns he got into, that I covered with some salve meant for poultry.

Rooster with No Feathers on his Rear - Can He Stay Outside?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice this morning. We had a coyote attack yesterday and though we feared the worst when we got out into the yard and saw all the feathers strewn about, it turns out the coyote only managed to pull the feathers out of our rooster's tail and a part of his saddle...

8 Week Old Hen, Injured Leg - Best Treatment?

I hope it's ok to post a little update here! My little hen is recovering well, and I can't detect a limp anymore (unless she's really booking it across the yard, then she looks a little wobbly). She seems back to normal! Thank you to everyone who responded :)

8 Week Old Hen, Injured Leg - Best Treatment?

Ah, thank you! I've been a bit of a helicopter mom since I've had them, but luckily they are very friendly and sociable. What you didn't see in all of those videos were the three hens trying to hop on my back or pecking at my jeans and camera!

8 Week Old Hen, Injured Leg - Best Treatment?

Thank you all for your advice! Leaving her with the others and keeping an eye on her was my first instinct, but I'm rather inexperienced at this stage so I wanted to reach out.
