    Mink in Coop

I have already found the two holes he made under the foundation and that has been fixed. However, this morning I killed a different mink (it was a different color so I know it was a different one). Does anyone know if mink tend to travel together? I live near two of the biggest minkeries in...

    Mink Got in Coop

Yesterday I was out by my cattle when I heard my chickens start to get very excited about something. It wasn't out of the ordinary until I saw feathers fly out of a very small hole that must have recently been made in the side of the barn where the coop is. I went inside and saw 1 dead hen, 1...

Is it normal for a chicken to stand on one leg

Pretty late to respond, but I will anyway :D I live in southeastern Wisconsin, all of my chickens stand on one foot throughout the winter and will switch feet occasionally. So I would have to agree with the first thing willowbranchfarm said if you live in a colder area

    BOBCAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We do enjoy the same right. Our evolution has given us the ability to build electric fencing and live traps instead of having to kill.

Chicks Ready to Move From Brooder?

If I do that can I do it today or will it be best to wait a little bit yet? Everything will be ready after half an hour of work or so, so I could do it before tonight if that is an option. Thanks for the advice so far!

    BOBCAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good fencing is the key. I would never promote shooting or trapping of any animal. You may think you have the right to, but we are all creatures of this Earth simply doing what we were programmed to do (the bobcat getting a meal). I also promote the idea of dogs on the property for predator...

Chicks Ready to Move From Brooder?

To give some more info: My brooder is in an insulated building, always warm especially with the heat lamp. My coop is in an old barn built in 1905. I sealed up all the cracks in the foundations, added new floorboards to the above floor, added new siding boards to the outside, and boarded up...

    Rats

As someone who used to raise and breed rats, I will agree with the fact that relocation is very very likely not a possibility. You can try, but the rat will definitely not do it on her own. Not when there is grain to be eaten! Rats don't live by many rules, but one rule they stick to is "when...

Chicks Ready to Move From Brooder?

I have 11 healthy chicks. I received them all at the same time, but two (a new breed to the hatchery) were about 1.5 weeks old. The others were day old chicks. At this point, the two older pullets are about 5 weeks old (maybe 5 weeks and a couple days). I live in Wisconsin so the nights have...

    Window in Laying Boxes?

Thanks for the input. I think I'll try putting it in. The sun won't shine on it, but if it is still too bright for them to lay by it I can always try some nice dark/thick curtains.

    Window in Laying Boxes?

I am in the process of building my coop for my 11 three week old chicks. My dad and I recently remodeled a house and I kept a 3' x 4' window that we replaced. I am wondering if it will be a problem if I used this window as the back of the laying boxes so I can simply walk by on the outside and...

    How old for first "outing"?

Sounds fun! I can't wait for my movable outdoor coop to be ready so I can let mine out for extended periods.

Cows and Chickens in the same pasture?

I was kinda late finding this thread, but what you want is for the chickens to be about 3 days behind the cattle. This is because the fly egg cycle is 4 days. Chickens are wonderful (and free) labor when it comes to spreading out the nutrients that the cows drop, as well as being very useful for...
