MEDICATED OR NON-MEDICATED: I personally don't use medicated feed. I am feeding a flock of 46 and have never seen any symptoms indicating the need for a medicated feed. WHEN TO SWITCH: I keep everyone on NEW COUNTRY ORGANICS NON-SOY 22%STARTER. I keep Oyster Shell and Grit available at all...

Topic of the Week - Deworming chickens

So I am going to deworming my flock of 40 tomorrow. Is it better to deworm them on an empty stomach (in the morning prior to eating) or in the evening after they have eaten all day long?

    Suddenly refusing fermented food

There is a HUGE benefit to fermenting feed other that them not spilling it. The reason the feed bill drops when owners begin correct fermentation is when fermentation is done correctly, we as humans, are "partially digesting" the feed for them. New turkey owner. Freaking out about blackhead.

You can keep chickens and turkeys together but you need to deworm your turkeys 2-3 times a year for coccidia which can turn into liver flukes. Sageguard for goats will kill the coccidia and keep it from prgressing to the liver... same concept as heartworm medication for dogs.

Had to share a pic of my pretty 3 week old Poult!

I got him from a lady who raises some rare colors of Turkeys. I believe he would be considered a Tiger Narragansett. My other one i got is a very pretty Calico... pretty sure she is a hen :) They seem to really love laying in my lap and getting warm LOL!

    Does anyone Vaccinate their poults?

A little background here LOL! The boyfriend and I went to TSC... someone dropped off 2 chickens... long story short one had to be culled immediately the other, after 4 days of intensive treatment (tube feeding and subcu fluids) she started showing classic signs of Mareks Dz. Now all my...
