    Mice in the coop

    My three chickens (less than a year old) stopped laying about a week ago. Don't think they're molting and seem healthy. Last night I spotted a mouse in the coop. I set electric trap today. Could the hens have stopped laying because mice are scratching around at night and keeping them awake? Thanks

    Thanks. Yes, they have everything they need in the shed. They usually love corn as a treat but even this is going uneaten. Hopefully things will improve when (if) the fox gives up and moves on.

    Yes, there are signs of digging around the shed. I don't know how to deter the fox. We have deep snow just now so my electric poultry netting isn't working. I don't own a gun, so lethal force isn't an option. Luckily the shed and secure run have concrete foundations so it won't manage to get in.

    Horrible sight when I went out to the run this morning. A fox had devoured four of my chickens - blood, feathers and bits of bodies scattered all over. It's the first time in six years that I've had a visit from a predator. I suspect that my electric fence failed to give the verminous red fiend...
