Ok this sounds a little crazy, but I have waited quietly in a shadow and when my girls try to do the surfing I toss a small bucket of water at them.
They learn their bad behavior has consequences. I have also sprayed with the hose just not actually hitting them.
I use a portable electric poultry net fence Its this long net with poles attached so you stick them in the ground tada daytime fence any where you want it mine go in the secure barn at night. My Anconas wont eat my plants but they will root around in the mulch
I had a duck get bumble foot so she lived in our tub during the day for like two weeks.
Now she is calm with all people. She still isn't a big fan of being picked up.
My Saxony on the other hand is always the last to walk away just in case I have more food,
and she lets my two year old pick her up.
My four ducks have a run the length of our house.
They create a bare ring around the kiddy pool and around the ramp where their food is.
They also keep the grass pretty short but not too bad.
I took my Saxony to the farmers market in a puppy yard fence. A loose dog came running up.
So she flew over the three foot fence. Then stood there waiting for me to put her back in.
She is louder than my Ancona girls.
Sounds like a typical duckling they trample all over each other, make lots of messes and are full of personality. I don't know much about chicks other than yes they will bully don't put the week one back with the pecker.
mine will walk and sit if its really cold to keep their feet from freezing to the ground. usually one complains its cold out by doing her walk and sit. Not life threatening sorry.
My Saxony routinely lays two a day. no hiding possible in the pen till 10:00, but in the summer she will even lay one in the pool.
My Anconas lay nice little green eggs but not even every day. they will try to hide them in the straw.
