Phew! I’m not alone! I have four, hatched April 26: Buff Orpington, Austra White, Silver Cuckoo Marans, and Green Queen EE, and only the Austra is laying. She started in early Nov, and we’ve had 8 eggs from her. The other three are happy, healthy freeloaders 😂
Spring 2020: I've been quietly lurking on BYC for four years, planning, waiting... And last October, my small city relaxed the chicken keeping laws, allowing flocks of up to 6 hens on a residential property, if properly registered. Over the winter, I hatched my plans, and in March–just before...
Thanks! She’s a Green Queen Easter Egger from MyPetChicken. Her name’s Persephone, but we all call her Sharpie because she looked like someone drew on her with marker when she was hatched. That’s her with Trudy, the Silver Cuckoo Marans, when they arrived.
Look at them!! 🥰
Mine have been out in their run during the warm days. They’re so happy out there, zooming and scratching. Can’t wait for the coop to be done so they can move in in a couple weeks 😀
This is the one I have

My husband doesn’t like heat lamps in the house and we figured once we’re done with the brooder, this would be good to have as a backup if there’s a prolonged deep freeze over the winter and...
I have a similar heat plate that does have feet to make it like a hen, but it also has chain hooks on the back to suspend flat it instead. Anything like that on yours?
Hi! New chicken mama here, too. Chicks are due Tuesday! Taking advantage of my professional carpenter spouse's skills on our coop. Building the buried anti-predator foundation box today while the sun is out! Tomorrow, we start prepping the brooder :)
I'm just down the road (ish) from you! My first 4 chicks are due in a couple weeks, so we're still in the planning stages for a coop and run, but most of the info, or at least the leads to ideas have come from the coop design threads here.
Hi Karen,
Do you still keep chickens? We're a little south of Nobscot, not far from the common, and now that the town has relaxed their poultry policies, are getting our first chicks this spring :)
Would love to connect with other chicken people in the area...
