My SO is Filipino and ended up making adobo out of the EE. Definitely more meat than the BL. I thought he put it in the pressure cooker but only ended up cooking it for 45 in a pan with his vinegar concoction and like he normally does, it was very tender I was surprised. So, we made good use and...
So I never removed it just kept a close eye out and they are fine. Not gorging on it all. I’ve been trying to keep the “chickens know best” route since I started and don’t worry much. They seem a little more relaxed after I removed the two cockerels from the flock. I wasn’t sure how they would...
I ended up with two roosters. One was a brown Leghorn that crowed at 12 weeks and was so loud and not perfected yet by any means. He crowed a lot. Crowed in the coop at 4 am and you could still hear it inside the house and sometimes until 7 am. It carried for a long ways. The coop is 100 ft from...
Hello 👋
Also excited for spring. I have 1 light Brahma, 1 dark Brahma, and 4 sexlinks coming! That will make 10 chickens for me and I just started last Sept. only planning to keep 6 at a time 😆
They have had grit for awhile. I just added the oyster shell right next to that hanging on the fence. I assume they would be able to tell a difference? I did see the boys digging in it as well, 2 of them but they are no longer with us so I am going to be able to keep a closer eye on it. I’ll...
Hello!
Is there a chance my fall chicks will lay this winter? They are 18 weeks today. I started offering oyster shell the beginning of this week not thinking they would touch it much, especially after reading threads that many times they won’t touch it. But for me it’s been the exact opposite...
So at what age would a hen be most tender? Is it the same? So if you use them for layers then have to cull and they are old they have to be slow cooked? I have 2 Wyandottes, 1 EE, and 1 Barred Rock. I am getting 4 sex links and 2 Brahmas this spring.
Thank you. I am new to chickens and as soon as I figured they were boys I tried to back off a little and not get attached. But as chicks the BL was my fav and the EE didn’t do well and pasted for weeks hence the name. I’m ready to bring in another 6 this spring and learn how to integrate.
I don’t think I will give up on roasting but learn to pick ones I can. I’m glad I skinned my first bc the whole process for both didn’t take long and I just wanted to get my first out of the way. Thank you for the tip! I wanted to be able to try one in an air fryer since they are smaller.
