I should have said "in my experience" first, I've never had a bird killed by a wild animal that didn't at least eat something. I have heard about a mink taking out every bird in the coop just for the blood, but I would think the signs would be obvious.
Has to be a dog, wild animals don't kill for fun, they will eat some part of the bird. If your pen isn't covered, I would say a dog hopped the fence. I know your pain.
In my experience you might have problems letting them run free. Some of our hens decided they wanted to start laying under the porch then they found a way under the house. Our dogs are still finding really old eggs and its not very pleasant when they bust them open. Is your property well fenced...
We have 3.5 acres fenced in with 4 ft. welded wire. Our chickens are fenced in a separate area with a coop and our ducks and geese have free range of the place with a small pond. Our largest goose is gone, yet no other birds or rabbits are missing. She had three geese and two gander companions...
I just did some googling and it seems like not only a particular breed but how its raised, free range. Very similar to something the French have with the freedom ranger. "French Label Rouge Free Range program" I've never raised cornish x, but I can say my pioneers were very tasty. Easter egger...
A lot of ours are showing rooster wear. I had to put two hens in a tractor with younger birds to let them heal. I'm hoping to end up with some of the faster growing traits in some duel purpose birds. Most people have told me it isn't worth the effort. If they get too mean I'll decide its not...
I can chime in on this one as I still have two roos and three hens that are pioneers in my flock. I got them from Mcmurray last spring, butchered some and kept a few in hopes of breeding them, then I learned they are hybrids and aren't supposed to breed true. I'm still new to breeding birds...
Hello, I see this is an old thread. I got here by searching for this particular cross. Our geese are a white chinese male and a brown chinese female. Our third goose is hatching in the incubator from these parents right now and we are all excited! So far they are all mostly dark, the one that...
