Thank you everyone for your input advice and suport. She is sleeping now. I think she is past the point of no return. If she has strength tomorrow morning I would like to try again. But I dont want to prolong pain for her if there's no point. Wishing all of you, and your hens, health and...
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I've tried bathing her. She quite likes the baths but doesnt like being wet or being dried off. But the baths dont seem to be doing the trick. The vet said that after they aspirated (drained) the egg the empty shell moved further back along her oviduct away from...
I have an egg bound hen. She has been to the vet. Over the course of 2 days they gave her physical exam, x-ray, calcium injection, oxytocin, pain killers, antibiotics, baths, and finally they aspirated the egg,
But the shell has not broken, the egg has not collapsed and she still cannot pass...
We are in the UK so don't have the same option. But we got lucky and the vet gave us an emergency appointment. She's had a pain killer jab, an internal inspection & we've got antibiotics. Just have to keep a close eye on her and hope for the best. 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you all for your advice. She's still alive this morning but a bit weak and, probably unsurprisingly, hasn't laid. All she seems to want to do is sit on my knee, which is uncharacteristic for this usually very busy and bossy hen. We cant access antibiotics without a prescription here...

Sorry, am still getting used to forum posting...
Thank you again for your reply - I feel like I am not so alone with this!
I feed them layers mash. They free feed on that all day. I take it out of the run every night and its fresh for them every morning. Same with water, clean water every...

She's not eating or drinking. First time in a year since she came to live with us she went into the nesting box in the daytime and just stayed there. Her vent pulsing. Her crop is packed. I learned the hard way that taking a bird out of the flock can be detrimental, but she's just so poorly I...
Thank you Kiki, I really appreciate the fast response. Vet isn't really an option. Vets near here deal with cats & dogs and guinea pigs etc. I could do a phone consult, but the expertise on this forum is likely to be greater than what I would get from our vet.
