    Emus in Virginia

Hello all, Have been fascinated with Emu for a while now and have been volunteering at Blue Bird Gap farm to learn a little more about their care. Am now looking for someone in the Virginia area that I might be able to visit to learn more first-hand info and perhaps get chicks from sometime...

    Hard lump in abdomen

Hey gang, Having a problem with one of my ladies. Have a large, baseball sized, very hard lump in her lower abdomen. Size is signifcant compared to her very small size. (Small barred rock). She is eating, drinking and pooping normally. I have read through a number of egg-bound posts, and...

    Dead Guinea, need help

Hey gang, Went out to the coop this evening and found one of my guineas dead on the floor. I have a small flock of 5 (now 4). They are all about 16 weeks old. She was just laying on the floor, like she was roosting there, but with head laying to one side as if she fell asleep and died. I...

    Sick guinea?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am late in looking for info. She has died quite suddenly. Did a little shake, almost seizure like, and then was done. Will keep a close eye on the others to make sure no one else starts to show any odd symptoms.

    Sick guinea?

Hi, Just started Phase 1 of my new "farm", started with 6 Guinea keets about 3 weeks old. Have them in a large wire dog crate with water, food, pine shavings, a couple of perches and a 40watt light for heat if they want it. We are on day 5 and one of the keets doesn't seem to be too happy...

    Bad time to start?

All, thanks for all of the good advice and info. It would certainly make more sense to wait and deal with the move-in and setup issues for the next months and start chicks in the spring. However, rarely do I do things that totally make sense. Although the notion of getting some grown birds...

    Bad time to start?

I finally closed on my new home with three acres to begin my long time dream/desire/crackpot idea of having chickens and what-not. (Chickens are the gate-way animal, after all). I'd be looking at probably august or even september before I'm ready to take on this project so am compelled to ask...

    Let the cartoon begin!

Hello gang, Getting ready to start my new adventures with chickens and whatever that then leads to. (chickens are a gateway animal). I'm active duty Navy and have moved every two years for the past 20 but now have decided that I'm moving no more, will close on a house next month with 3...
