Update: I originally thought I had a rooster and 8 pullets. After some time I discovered I really had 2 roos and 7 pullets, which I split into 2 separate runs. I eventually lost one of the roos, so come spring I will reunite the single roo with the 7 pullets in a single run.
And the beat...
hokay...now I've got a mystery here. When Buster was alive, he had 4 ladies. They were an unhappy bunch when we lost him but they seemed to get over it after a bit. But today I discovered that there are only 3 girls in that pen. Had no idea when it happened. Nonplussed, we went searching for...
Ahhh...At last--an Angus 'fix'!!! I have missed hearing about everybody!
Unlike your ladies who do not like being picked up at all, since losing Buster his 3 ladies have developed a new little 'quirk'. They no longer put themselves away at night. Instead they stand and fuss and preen at...
We lost Buster who hatched in June this year. The girls in that pen all hatched with him that day. They are doing fine--cranky without him, but everybody is eating and drinking and scratching around-- and trying to visit Red next door, LOL. Red's my main guy. He had a few white tail feathers...
Sounds like you are really enjoying your new series! This winter is so cold and yucky that it's great you have something to fill your days besides problems. Here we're not so lucky. We lost a rooster--apparently to the cold--and now his hens are trying to escape into the next pen. That pen...
For us it was 59 years this time and, as usual for us, I cooked. We dont usually go out because around here you can get anything--as long as it's barbecue which neither of us likes. This year I did shrimp stir fry with just about every fresh veggie I could find. For Solstice I'll probably do...
Mine had ignored the laying box for months but FINALLY everybody's laying again except 3 old timers! From no eggs at all to a dozen a day! LOLOL Suddenly all my neighbors are talking to me again and waving as they drive by.

Sadly at this age they only seem to get worse, not better, with time. Can't say I didn't see this coming. With stallions it's Rule #1: Don't get hurt. Rule #2: Remember Rule #1. Roosters are no different.

I've got family visiting from Florida on Tuesday. Our low is supposed to be 22. I've warned them but they're still expecting to wear shorts and sandals. Should be interesting! ;)
Our local grocery has a bulletin board to post pretty much anything on for free. You've probably got something similar somewhere near you. Post him as "free to a good home" and you might be surprised by the response.
