Deep Bedding Method: How often are you supposed to rake the wood chips?

I have read conflicting information on this. Some people say simply add more wood shavings once a month, then rake them in together with the old wood shavings. Others say that the deep bedding method requires you to rake the shavings daily. Any opinions on this? Thank you!

is this feeder dangerous for my 3 week old chicks?

Thanks. I've got it on a rope so that I can progressively make it taller. I had a feeling it's going to be 30% poop 70% food for the first weeks until I dial that in. Thanks again.

is this feeder dangerous for my 3 week old chicks?

I'm sick of cleaning/refilling the small feeder on the left twice a day so I've put in the big feeder. Are they at risk of falling in and getting stuck? Thanks.

was I too aggressive with the vertical nipple waterer? (2 week old chicks)

Thanks. The bears are out tonight (don't worry I have the coop bear proofed) So I won't be checking on them until morning. In the morning I will add a second waterer. Thanks for your help and lol, fair point, they dislike me for a good reason I suppose. Also I have no idea what I'm doing so I...

was I too aggressive with the vertical nipple waterer? (2 week old chicks)

Thank you. My chicks hate me so much that they won't eat scrambled eggs or mealworms out of my hand so I think I'll forgo tapping on it anymore lol. I dunno what I ever did to them!

was I too aggressive with the vertical nipple waterer? (2 week old chicks)

Today I took away the messy waterer and started them on a vertical nipple waterer. I held all their beaks up to the water. 4 of them acted like they were being waterboarded, 2 of them actually took a sip or three. I did this twice. I put a mealworm on each of the nipples to see if they drink...

<2 weeks old, severe bullying already. What to do?

Thank you both. They do have constant access to food but distractions as mentioned never occurred to me. This is my first flock. I did my best to ensure that it is both rat proof and snake proof...but I guess we'll find out now if I take them out of the brooder!

<2 weeks old, severe bullying already. What to do?

I have 6 chicks (hens) in a brooder. This morning I noticed that one of the hens has a small hole in her feather formation, then noticed another hen pecked at said hole. No blood yet, no broken skin, but it appears inevitable. Debating whether I should: 1) take them out of the brooder and...

why can't I take them out of the brooder after a week or two?

lol they are in my master bathroom which may as well be the bedroom. Gonna be a long night.

why can't I take them out of the brooder after a week or two?

Exploring like crazy, scratching, and pecking! Nice! Thank you! (brooder is probably too small already. They are 1 week old-ish from Tractor Supply and I'm in a 35 gallon rubbermade with hardware cloth.)

why can't I take them out of the brooder after a week or two?

So I've got the temperature up to about 83 degrees. They are running back and fourth, eating, drinking, etc. they seem much happier with the warmer temps (when it was around 70 for a few hours they were huddled up and not making a sound). ...but man they will not shut up lol. I'm reading that...

why can't I take them out of the brooder after a week or two?

I have the heater lamp ghetto rigged in a very, very unfashionable way for which I will not detail LOL. Thank god I don't have any friends coming over for the next few weeks. But I think I've got a safe solution nailed down. Had a lil panic for a minute there. Thanks for walking me through this!

why can't I take them out of the brooder after a week or two?

so now I'm scared of a fire hazard with the heat lamp. haha. It's not perfectly secure and stuff happens. So now I'm stuck with either bringing them inside and finding a clever way to safely attach the heat lamp...or leaving 1 week old chicks in a coop when it's going to hit mid 60's tonight. Ugh.
