Yikes! I was cleaning up the garage and one of my chickens snuck in & found a large rubber band. I didn't know they had it until i saw 2 of them fighting over it. They broke it in half in a tug-of-war and the winner swallowed it before I could get my hands on her!
She looks fine now but here's...
Many people that work in prison can tell you their 2nd day was the hardest.
Everybody 'thinks' they can do the job, it's wading back in, the second day, you start to feel it!
My wife would remind me that my working in Folsom was what I must have wanted, because prior to prison work, I had a...
I have a 100 year old home in Sacramento. We have a pretty good sized lot, for being in the city.
I fenced off a side yard for my 2 chickens & they have this 4x8 coop I lock them in at night.
Good luck

Dirty beak?
I only have 2 chickens, so I'm just trying to figure this out.
One of our chickens "Rosie" RIR, keeps her beak shinny clean. She's always wiping it off.
Our other girl "Rocky" BR, always looks like a kid at a pie eating contest. She doesn't seem to care.

Around here, Folsom Prison has such a stigma attached to it, I just tell people "I'm a retired state worker", when they ask what I do.
I have quite a few scars from my days in Folsom. Some you can see, & some...
Thank you
I didn't mean to start on such a downer, I really am happy to be retired. And I'm a believer in "What don't kill you, only makes you stronger".
Life is good!

P.S. After working inside there all I can say is "Thank god we build prisons'!
Folsom Prison has a (well earned) bad reputation. It's not a nice place to work.
The job is killing you and you know it. Sometimes it wins.
Cpt Doug Pieper (RIP) was a good friend, I still have guilt about his death:
Anguished prison guard: 'My job has killed me'
Suicide note after riot...
My job was to try to get everyone thru the work day, without anyone getting hurt. We use a dozen 150 ton punch presses to stamp the plates, to add to the drama of the day.
It was hard not to cross all sorts of lines in there, written or otherwise. These were real convicts not RP. When one of...
I've just retired from 25 years inside Folsom Prison. Ask me anything
I started working for the California Dept of Corrections in 1985. I started as a Corrections Officer, but after a short time, I transferred to the PIA, (Prison Industry Authority). PIA operates all the factories inside prisons...
Seafood anyone?
Lobster, because you can't live on tacos alone!
We caught this Big Boy, free diving while beach camping in Baja. Because I was just getting tired of tacos!
