thanks! do you have any "sexing" tricks? I was told they are both girls, but the silkie acts more boyish and has the more pointed feathers, where the sultan has the rounded feathers. any ideas?
I picked these two sweet chicks up at a swap over the weekend. The little Asian lady told me the dark one was a Silkie and the other was an "Angel Bird" - which I think she may have mistaken for a cockatoo. They are 3 and for months old, respectively and have feathered feet. I'm thinking the...

I just went to a swap this morning and purchased 6 Buff Orpingtons - 4/10 week olds, 2/6 week olds. that was my intention for going. then a nice Asian lady came up to me with two Silkies - one partridge, one white (that she said was an Angel Bird). They are feather footed and 3 and 4 mos. old...
I had a hatch like that, jac - real bummer - 0/24 on that one, 1/13 on the last one. Got 14 in the bator started this morning and hoping the 3rd time's a charm!! Expensive lessons, they are!!
Just got my Buff Orpingtons in today and will let them sit and get cookin' in the morning. Should be a June 21 +/- hatch!! Hope the 3rd time's a charm!!!
I've seen folks do this different ways, or at least not mention the specifics, so I'm asking some of you "eggsperts" out there. My last two hatches from purchased eggs haven't gone so well, and I want all the help I can get. My Buff embryos have arrived at the post office and I will be going...
I am so bummed!!! Lost one of the baby chicks at about 28 hrs. old. She seemed a little weaker than the other one, but don't know why. None of the other 11 hatched. Out of those, 3 had fully formed, but must have given up in the end. I must be doing something wrong!! I kept daily records of...
We got some Ameraucanas and A-Buff cross at a chicken swap and they have three toes in the front and two in the back. Is this normal? they aren't purebreds - my husband says they're freaks, but I think it's in the breed.
I think cmfarm is right - I never heard of going so low - I thought it needed to be between 40 and 50 the first 18 days, then 60-70 until hatch. You could simply dry them out before they get started.
